Are you serious????

This is where we are? The President of the United States makes this quote part of his reelection campaign?

America, if a majority buy into this, and do not reject it, the sun has set on us.

You:  ".....hopefully Romney didn't apologize for America and call us arrogant"

My response:  "....when we screw up as we certainly did by invading Iraq, an apology is the very least which ought to be offered."

Bush ought to apologize for Iraq but  likely he never will.

Toby Keith has rights of free speech and can say what he wants but words alone don't make a patriot

If somebody says a speech, action, or person is jingoistic, it's not a compliment. Here's the Merriam Webster definition:

jin·go·ism noun \ˈjiŋ-(ˌ)gō-ˌi-zəm\

Definition of JINGOISM
: extreme chauvinism or nationalism marked especially by a belligerent foreign policy
jin·go·ist noun or adjective
jin·go·is·tic adjective
jin·go·is·ti·cal·ly adverb

Examples of JINGOISM
  1. When the war began many people were caught up in a wave of jingoism.
  2. <his loudmouthed jingoism will not win us any foreign allies>

My POV--patriotism is a lot like humility.  When you go around claiming you are, you're not.

I took your comments* about AP questioning their veracity, integrity, and scrupulous standards on the Romney/Bain piece as an attack on the "legitimacy" of their reporting.  Who knew that there was no such intent......

*Below are exact quotes from you:

....what they were reporting as "fact" was nothing more than hearsay

It's not my "supposition" that there are no "facts" in that AP story that substantiate that Romeny [sic]was in an active role at Bain after 1999. They're just not there

The authors of the article posted have no credible sources, that's why they didn'[t sic] name them . It was an article full of speculaion [sic] confided to the authors by faceless people, who probably don't exist.

....it is my opinion that true journalism doesn't exist any longer. The AP certainly has had some problems with reporting news that was later deemed to be false or a hoax.

Obama is clearly showing an expression of regret. It's really not debatable.

So in your opinion  when he says, " In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive." to his audience, he's not regretful about this view of how Europe has been treated. He's proud of it? He's indifferent about it? He's stating his opinion, but he doesn't regret that they were treated that way, so he's just informing them in a flippant way?    No, you and I both know it's being said in a tone of regret and remorse. To try to say that's it's something different is ludicrous!

I couldn't stand Woody Hayes.    Just something about him.   I'm pretty sure every coach of OSU has been a Republican.   Anyone that knows me,  knows I love my Buckeye's.     Hey, what does anyone expect, Ohio is full of worthless nuts.   LOL

"Toby Keith, himself, said he voted for Obama."

When?  I saw a couple of interviews with him, when his latest CD came out, but when asked that question, he wouldn't answer it.

Here ya go.......

Apology- a verbal or written expression of regret or contrition for a fault or failing

Speech by President Obama, Rhenus Sports Arena, Strasbourg, France, April 3, 2009.

So we must be honest with ourselves. In recent years we've allowed our Alliance to drift. I know that there have been honest disagreements over policy, but we also know that there's something more that has crept into our relationship. In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive

Are you saying that you think Toby Keith owes 'someone" an apology in regard to the Iraq war?  I'm pretty sure that he had nothing to do with the decision to go to war.

I'm repeating the same points, because the article still doesn't contain verifiable information.

"When AP hacks into other people's phone records, crime victims included, for the sake of tabloid titillation, when it manufactures crowd numbers to support movements it actively promotes, when those who lead the organization commit perjury, then it will have sunk to the level of NewsCorp"...............Noone is disputing that the AP is a legitimate source for the news and to my knowledge you didn't post a link to a NewsCorp article for me to read, so I am not sure why you keep comparing the two nor do I understand what NewsCorp has to do with the article you posted. However, in my opinion, even when reading an article from a "reputable" news source, the reader should measure for himself the level of factual, verifiable information against what he knows to be true, rather than fall prey to "believing everything he reads".

In reference to the meaning of jingoistic:  I had not addressed the usage of that word in my original post, but came back and added the definition after my son read your post and said, "She is using the word jingoistic as though that's a bad thing.". I thought he made a pretty good point for a teenager, so I edited and added my remarks because I too, see nothing wrong with someone being "frantically patriotic".

Knowing ZERO about me,don't ASSUME.   3/4 of my family are Republicans.   I liked Bob Hope.   Can't stand Ted Nugent.   He's out there.    Like Jim Tressel (head coach of Ohio State University).   Heck a friend of mine and school mate was a Republican state Representitive.  Now the State fire Marshall.   Many of my friends are Republicans.

Toby Keith, himself, said he voted for Obama.

Your announcement doesn't rain on my parade or surprise me. He had been a life long democrat. According to him, his parents were also democrats. He re-registered in 2008  as an independent. His presidential voting record has no bearing on whether or not I like him or his music. It does perhaps show the difference between us.  Based on your post,  "Hate to rain on your parade, but Toby Keith voted for Obama.",  it sounds like that should be a deal breaker for me, presumably because it would be for you, but I am more tolerant of other's personal and political beliefs than to dismiss them because we don't have like political views. He's a patriot. He goes out of his way to honor those in our military and I respect him for that and I love his music.

Here's a great article from CMT, though, http://www.cmt.com/news/country-music/1596198/toby-keith-registering-as-independent-voter.jhtml  It's a nice human interest piece and interview with Toby Keith.

How do know who Keith voted for in 2008?  I've never read or heard that info divulged, but I haven't been looking for it, either.
