I'm done with her

Well, I am not defending Sarah Palin anymore.  I have tried to be neutral.  I have suggested that if she did a good job the next 4 years in Alaska, that she might be a great Republican candidate.  But after her attacks this week, I am done.  When I hear interviews with people leaving her rallies saying they are "afraid" of Barack Obama, saying they were on the fence before, but now they are "terrified" if Obama elected.  More and more people are calling him a terrorist.  We've seen these changes on this board this week.

She's either an idiot, or she is content to lead with fear and further fracture our country.  If she believes that for a second that Obama has a terrorist agenda, she's a dummy.  I don't think she believes it, however.  I think she is just throwing out the insinuations, letting people connect the dots, and come to the most vicious of conclusions.   I've heard her lastest battle cry referred to as "red meat" speeches, where she is throwing raw meat to the savage dogs to work them into a frenzy, throwing chum in the water to stir up the sharks.

I can take this kinda crap from Hannity or Rush or Savage or any of the others.  But she is trying to be the VP - NOTHING about her this week has been either Presidential or remotely classy.   Will she use this same language about world leaders?  Will she say the same about our Secretary of State when they meet with "unfriendly" leaders?  Did Colin Powell or Condy Rice "pal around with terrorists"?  They have certainly met with some of the most controversial leaders in the world.

I won't defend her any more.  I will not, as a Republican woman myself, support her if chooses to run on '12.  I will leave her to the dogs and let them attack.  I am ready for REAL change, and this type of race baiting, this type of insulting, unpatriotic dialogue about a STANDING US SENATOR, is beyond insulting.  I'm disappointed in her, in myself for supporting her, and this morning, as I listened to part of her speech, I actually threw up in my mouth a little.  Her words, her tone, and the response she created was disgusting.  I am done with her.

So if you were hiring one of these students, would you ask their political leanings if you saw from their resume they did a senior thesis with Ayers? If they worked for Acorn over the summer, would they not be welcome to work for you?

I'm just really trying to gauge where people's heads and hearts are on this issue. I am genuinely concerned that this type of negativity is harmful to our country. I trust that you are intelligent and you have considered the issues and made up your mind according to your own research. But, not considering his other connections, knowing the facts of their relationship, does the Obama/Ayers connection really equate to a threat? If you read many of the threads here, there is no mistake that voters are thinking and saying that Obama is a terrorist/terrorist sympathizer. Are such scare tactics fair or even appropriate?

Its important to me, because daily, for almost a year, I served espresso to Ivan Boesky. He pulled up on his motorcycle, came into the coffee shop where I worked and ordered a shot of espresso almost every day. I also bumped into him at the grocery store on occassion and a few times at the blockbuster video.

I didn't realize who he was until his obituary ran in the paper. I later learned that many fallen money men from the late 80's lived in my community. Am I now as closely tied to S&L scandal as John McCain?

I think I see it differently because I don't look at it as just 3 aquaintances.

Thank you for the editorial commentary. I changed my original post accordingly.

I stand by the rest of my post. I was not just offended by what she said, but by the reaction she incited. I have seen the change on this board, I have seen the change in letters to the editor, and I have grave concerns that she is stirring up a hornets nest for political gain. She has an amazing opporunity to bring people together in a time of crisis, and she has chosen fracturous language instead. Or perhaps it was chosen for her, and she is showing her skills at the anchor desk - just read what's on the teleprompter and sell it as though you wrote it yourself. Either way, she's lost my support, and I'm sure she couldn't care less.

That entirely depends on the job - if it was to hire someone to influence others, I'd want to know their views and if they matched the views I was trying to promote.

Yep, I read your other post, and I understand your perspective.

Sorry you are offended by my attempts at humor.

References - since I am facing maybe 2 hours of sleep thanks to the fun on this board, please let me know what parts of what I've posted you need further references on - in some I've provided legitimate references, while for generally "known" stuff that has been on major news and in magazines such as The Economist, I have just assumed we all were familiar with the facts.

"Beyond reproach" was changed to "beyond insulting".

You don't share my perspective, and I'm okay with that. My decision to no longer defend or support Govenor Palin is about my interpretation of what I have heard from her, and interviews of those who attended her rally. Others did not hear her speech the same way and think she's doin' just a darn fine job, dog gone it. Good for them.

I know my post won't change any minds. But she certainly changed mine.
