Intelligent Design?

Are you concerned about a potential vice president that supports teaching the idea of intelligent design side by side with evolution? I have tried to look into it since hearing that Sarah Palin supports both being taught and I confess I am deeply troubled. Maybe someone could enlighten me but I definitely do not what my children taught that 'intelligent design' as scientific fact. I live in an area where religion is already dangerously encroaching on public education and this bothers me. My religious beliefs are personal and I am tired of people telling me that I should believe what they believe - everyone seems to think their religion is 'the one' without allowing that I may feel the same about mine. Maybe someone can enlighten me - but this idea really concerns me. I know vice presidents don't make policy - but should something happen to McCain this woman would be president.

"In nursing your interventions also have to have been proved to work and be approved by NIC/NOC, they are based upon evidence and western medicine is beginning to study eastern medicine and trying to find the links."

Actually, I work in the area with the LEAST amt of scientific evidence to support it's interventions...and one in which a LOT of debate exists on how to best handle the issues.....but a LOT of medicine isn't scientific fact.

Of course we call upon the chaplain services as needed, but we would not encourage people to only pray, it would be in addition to other interventions. Their prayers would be seen as meeting their spiritual needs, not necessarily an intervention towards meeting an observable outcome outside of a spiritual need, in other words we would not list it as an intervention towards ineffective airway clearance, we use interventions that have been proven to work, by empirical evidence.

Are you a psych nurse? That is what I gathered from the lack of evidence and debate...

I'll have to go back and check, but I do not think my post was directed towards you and what you posted, again I'll have to check.

I know the science curriculum has gone through several major overhauls since I was in high school. My children were taught evolution and I vaguely remember something along those lines. Since evolution has some scientific theory behind it it would be different than intelligent design. If you open the door to intelligent design do you also open the door to other creation stories, because many religions have their own version. Where will the line be drawn? As a teacher we are so stress with what has to be taught and by when I don't see much room the scope and sequence for adding things not in the curriculum. I still think ID belongs in a different class.

~I still stand by my statement that if you are going to teach somethign that goes AGAINST religious beliefs then you should allow open discussion amongst students about the differences, etc.~

How much time do you think

Of course we wouldn't call upon them to ONLY pray in most instances and of course it is in addition to other interventions.

I think if it comes up, it should be allowed for discussion.

Yes but the original post was in response to Mrs. Palin's statement that both should be 'taught side by side' which is different than just allowing a discussion. Seems the responses go back and forth on that one. But even discussion can be tricky depending on where you live in this country, and who the teacher is, and the prevailing religious beliefs of the area.

Did the beliefs of Egyptians and Cavemen come from a science class? Just wondered how that would come up in science - I could see in history. Also a logical place for beliefs of Native Americans, but again I don't see it in science class.
