Intelligent Design?

Are you concerned about a potential vice president that supports teaching the idea of intelligent design side by side with evolution? I have tried to look into it since hearing that Sarah Palin supports both being taught and I confess I am deeply troubled. Maybe someone could enlighten me but I definitely do not what my children taught that 'intelligent design' as scientific fact. I live in an area where religion is already dangerously encroaching on public education and this bothers me. My religious beliefs are personal and I am tired of people telling me that I should believe what they believe - everyone seems to think their religion is 'the one' without allowing that I may feel the same about mine. Maybe someone can enlighten me - but this idea really concerns me. I know vice presidents don't make policy - but should something happen to McCain this woman would be president.

"Yes but the original post was in response to Mrs. Palin's statement that both should be 'taught side by side' which is different than just allowing a discussion."
And it was shown that the OP was a small snippet of her full thoughts.
"Actually no.....things like accupuncture, massage, prayer, etc. work on some people but not on others...and there are no scientific reasons why they should work.
think if it comes up, it should be allowed for discussion. Last year my oldest dd was learning about the beliefs of egyptions and cavemen.....they have often discussed beliefs of native americans
In a mythology class.... yes
In a comparative religion class .... absolutely
In a SCIENCE class...No... supposed to be teaching science, NOT religion.

"she seems to think the discussion is ok in science - "
I will give you that I COULD be wrong on this...but I don't ever recall her saying "science" specifically.
OK maybe I am assuming science because of the whole 'teach them side by side' thing - where else would you teach evolution but in science?
As to other issues - admittedly the record is slim to nearly non-existent. I am pro-choice - she stated somewhere - can't find it right now but I thought I bookmarked it - that she was for overturning Roe V Wade which has implications beyond the abortion debate. She has moved to prevent polar bears from being placed on the endangered species list, and she is a big NRA supporter. That is enough for me right now - I am sure there will be more, but even if there isn't I was never really comfortable with McCain either - the whole supported Bush 95% of the time given that I have NEVER be for Bush is a real turn off.
I confess I am not totally happy with the choices we are left with this time around.
