You don' believe it would be a security issue? Have you ever walked the streets after dark in Washington Dc anythime recently? Maybe you should try it, but go in a group, if you know what I mean.

Exactly, I mean give me a break... looking for a conspiracy people or just a reason to call democrats hypocrites. Sorry, but it probably had little to do with the actual democratic party and more to do with those silly people the secret service, and the Denver Chamber of Commerce/Board of tourism, of course they want the convention to go down well and "look good". But that has little to do with the Dem. Party. Puhleez!

A large event like this can be quite disturbing to the less mentally-stable of the homeless.

Just my point of view the RNC is in my backyard starting Monday and the protestors took the city to court to widen where they could be.

Your so right! How stupid of the republicans to NOT put all our tax paying money toward people who can't get it together themselves. How selfish of them. I watch these "homeless people" in my area walk out of their apartments in the morning to go to their corner and sit for upwards of 8hrs a day. Most homeless people now a days are career pan handlers. These people could go and get a job if they really wanted and put in an honest days work, but no they choose to sit on the corner with a cardbaord sign and beg hard working joes for their money. My dh and I gave a family $20 bucks, and we even gave the guy a ride to the gas station, bought and filled a gas can for him, drove him to job services so he could get a job like he said he was trying to do, he went in there for about 20 mins and came back out saying he got a job interview for the next day. We then called the local church and got him and his family a hotel room and some clothes for his interview, then drove him back to his car and helped him find the hotel. The next day, we happened to be driving by the same corner and he was there with the same sign, looking quite drunk. It has been about a year now and he is still at that same corner. We waisted our entire day trying to do good for someone and his "family" which we never saw, btw, and for what!?! We were taken by a scam artist, so when you say we should put our tax money to helping those who will not help themselves I say Bah Humbug!!! We have all been on hard times, but how many of you went to the streets to beg for money? How many of you went out and did something to better your situation??

Boy, democrats, what happened to "helping your fellow brother". I am pretty sure they needed more than just a couple bus tokens and movie tickets. Why not put them up in one of those fancy hotel rooms you stayed in? Out of site out of mind is right because when it comes down to it, they are all talk. I mean, Nancy Polosey could have done a lot this term to help those needing help, but instead they decided it was more important to make August National Watermelon month. Great use of power!!! I mean, I can definetly sleep easy now knowing that we FINALLY have a Watermelon month! Answer to all my prayers and our problems. Who cares about being energy independent anyway, we have a Watermelon month! Come on people lets all go out and eat our watermelon this month and remember what a great thing those democrats have done for us and watermelons. And maybe, we can even bring a watermelon to those displaced homeless people in Denver, they had a hard week, losing their "homes" and all to the DNC.

"Maybe our tax dollars should go to opening large institutions so that mentally ill people will have a place to live."

Yeah, we have those, homless shelters, Mental hospitals, prisons. What more do you want? Should we just go around with a big bus and pick these people up and force them to stay in a mental institution? These are volintary facilities and facilities set aside for people who seek the help. Most homeless people don't wnat to change, and most are just druggies who prefer to get stoned and beg for the money to do so. What more do you want the TAX PAYERS to do? HHmmm? Eat your watermelon and be glad you are a democrat and you can TALK about how evil those darn republicans are, because that is all dem seem to be good at anymore. TALK

The following statistics are a little outdated, but I doubt the numbers have improved.

So since you had an interaction with one homeless person suddenly you know the situation of most homeless people? The generalizations you made in that post are staggering.

I am not going to waste my post debating with you how Democrats care more about homeless than Republicans, if you read my pp you will see that I stated quite clearly that I think this is a problem society is failing at not one of the parties.

I don't believe we should stop helping the innocent homeless children and those who TRULY need the help. As do those in Iraq, we should help rebuild Iraq, when we were the ones who went in and unfortunately displaced families and schools and ect... But, I'm just saying the people elected by the people should do their jobs to help the people. How can we get the aid to the people who need it if these Senators keep taking roll calls and then call it a day? That doesn't help anyone. Do the job we hired and are paying you for. Why are we paying you to gather in a room for 10 minutes to say "here" and then call it quits for a couple weeks?

I really do feel for the innocent who are on the streets, I really do. That is why we need the law makers to actually work! Right? What more can we do but elect people who will do more than just talk and make promises. Elect people who actually act on what they say, elect people who have actually accomplished something. And that goes for the Senate especially.
