Why do I have the feeling that if the Republicans would have done this, you would be singing a very different tune?
Hey, I never said that I don't help people. I was just giving an example of what I experienced. I still help people and organizations that help the needy. I donate to our local food drive. They give free groceries every Thursday, and when we can I donate food. And I donate to worthy charities. Now, instead of just handing them cash, I give food and drinks when I have them in the car and am driving by. I am not closed hearted at all about giving to those who truely need it. And, I do not have bad feelings toward them. I really do believe there are people out there who really need help. But, there are a few who burn people who are trying to really give help to those who need it. And some people don't appreciate being taken like that. I learned a lesson in that if I truly want to help better someones situation, I can do it by service, not just handing over our much needed money to them. We can offer more programs to get people who really want rehabilitated and back on their feet.
So, no I am not closed hearted. And I don't think anyone here on Earth is in the position to judge whether or not I help my fellow man or not. That is what the scriptures say too.
Besides, I never said we shouldn't help them. I am trying to say that a lot of them need to WANT the help. We do have programs and charities out there for anyone to take advantage of. Yes, we could use a lot more, but some of these people need to want it first. And for those children out there, we HAVE to help them. We should better their lives. I haven't seen any in my area, but if ever I did, you bet I would do everything in my power to save them. I think it is sad that their are kids in America who have nothing. But, again, this is America and we can't force people into anything that they don't want for themselves. But, we can all be there to offer the assistance when they do. But, please lets leave the government out of this. They have screwed up enough things as it is. If we put them in charge of charitable things like helping the homless, they'll just bankrupt that too and borrow the money from China to "Bail" them out again. If we, as people, put our minds to something we can get it done faster and better than any govnt employee out there. They need more than just bus tokens and movie tickets.
Because, democrats do things so much better than the republicans. I mean, when they cheat on their wives it is more taste full than when say slimy McCain left his wife for a "hotter" women. Or classier than touching feet in a bathroom stall. Democrats can get away with slimy things. When a dem cheats on his wife in the oval office, big deal! Two consenting adults. When a Dem. govonor leaves his wife of so many years for another man, big deal! At least he didn't hide it in a bathroom.
And you better believe that if the Republicans even TRY to give the homeless a place to go during the RNC, they will never live it down. Because that is just slimy! And democrats do it better! ;)
Well then you should be more careful in what you post.
***How stupid of the republicans to NOT put all our tax paying money toward people who can't get it together themselves. How selfish of them. I watch these "homeless people" in my area walk out of their apartments in the morning to go to their corner and sit for upwards of 8hrs a day. Most homeless people now a days are career pan handlers. These people could go and get a job if they really wanted and put in an honest days work, but no they choose to sit on the corner with a cardbaord sign and beg hard working joes for their money. My dh and I gave a family $20 bucks, and we even gave the guy a ride to the gas station, bought and filled a gas can for him, drove him to job services so he could get a job like he said he was trying to do, he went in there for about 20 mins and came back out saying he got a job interview for the next day. We then called the local church and got him and his family a hotel room and some clothes for his interview, then drove him back to his car and helped him find the hotel. The next day, we happened to be driving by the same corner and he was there with the same sign, looking quite drunk. It has been about a year now and he is still at that same corner. We waisted our entire day trying to do good for someone and his "family" which we never saw, btw, and for what!?! We were taken by a scam artist, so when you say we should put our tax money to helping those who will not help themselves I say Bah Humbug!!! We have all been on hard times, but how many of you went to the streets to beg for money? How many of you went out and did something to better your situation??....
Most homeless people don't wnat to change, and most are just druggies who prefer to get stoned and beg for the money to do so. What more do you want the TAX PAYERS to do? HHmmm? Eat your watermelon and be glad you are a democrat and you can TALK about how evil those darn republicans are, because that is all dem seem to be good at anymore. TALK***
Uum, I seem to remember the republicans having complete control of both houses and the presidency for the first few years of President Bush's term and they got NOTHING done oh, except this war, the wonderful tax cuts to the rich that are the reason we are having to indebt ourselves to China to pay for the aforementioned war, oh and the wonderful NCLB that is the reason my accelerated child cant get the education he needs because the school are too busy trying to teach to the tests and they have to pay more attention to those below average and so when my child needs attention because he is above average he I get nothing from administration, his teachers are wonderful and amazing, those evil government workers, but they can only do so much when they have 25 students to keep above the magic line. So, I think if that is the "action" we'll get from four more years of a bushlike admin then I'll just say no.
I know what I wrote. Thank you though. And don't forget this part....
"Boy, democrats, what happened to "helping your fellow brother". I am pretty sure they needed more than just a couple bus tokens and movie tickets. Why not put them up in one of those fancy hotel rooms you stayed in?"
And I guess we agree that the government has been unable to pass anything lately that has actually done good, here on the homefront. I have to say I support the war and even the scewed reasons for going. But, I agree, I do not like the NCLB. My son is also a well above avg. student and he is getting bored even in his first week of school because the teacher has to spend time catching up all the other students. I really don't think that govnt should tell our schools how to do anything when they can't even take care of simple things like, should we drill on a peice of land that we bought especially for drilling, or should we just call it quits for the month and do absolutely nothing. This is a bi-party problem. Not just a Bushlike administration problem. Both partes are in power right now and still nothing good has come of it. We are still in the war that Palosey promised to get us out of, we are still dependent on foriegn oil, we are still dealing with Katrina aftermaths, social security is still bankrupt,
ITA about NCLB, I hope it is done away with. I understand the teachers/schools need to be accountable but NCLB is not working.
****"Boy, democrats, what happened to "helping your fellow brother". I am pretty sure they needed more than just a couple bus tokens and movie tickets. Why not put them up in one of those fancy hotel rooms you stayed in?"***
Why does everyone keep acting like it was the Dem party that did this? It was the people in charge of security. To quote the article posted...
"The city’s plans for the homeless during the DNC have been a popular subject for bloggers and in website comment columns in recent weeks, with much of the commentary describing those plans as an effort to roll up the homeless."
Also the article discusses the mental state of the homeless and how all the increased activity could cause added stress and the stimulation could cause problems with their mental disorders. These are very important factors, whether or not you choose to believe it. Taking care of the mentally ill in the community is a difficult task, one made even more difficult because of lack of funding and programming for these people, even the veterans. Long term care really doesn't exist anymore for the mentally ill and so when their illness (and that is what it is, an illness, no different than cancer) prevents them from caring for themselves in their daily lives they end up on the street. A lot of the drug use and alcohol use is self medicating, its not helpful, but it is the reality. So, while its easy to laugh at the thought of giving them a way to escape the excitement, its a real solution to a problem. I do believe Guiliani through them in jail one Thanksgiving to "keep them out of the cold" (or away from tourists) I think the movies and zoo is better.
