Yeah, we have those, homless shelters, Mental hospitals, prisons. What more do you want? Should we just go around with a big bus and pick these people up and force them to stay in a mental institution?

So, no I am not closed hearted. And I don't think anyone here on Earth is in the position to judge whether or not I help my fellow man or not. That is what the scriptures say too.

Sorry, I might be a little confused on your point. I did say that we don't have enough, and we do need more. I didn't mean we need to throw the mentally ill in jail, but those who are using drugs and yes it is against the law to be under the influence in public. And yeah, I agree the mental facilities are messed up in that they should offer more long term help. But, lets not have government funded facilities, lets have these be publicly funded facilities. I'll put my money in that. I believe we should help our fellow man and I'll put my money in those facilities. And, you are right, not all are just out there for their next fix. That was not right of me to say that and I am sorry that I offended anyone with that comment. Not my intention.

"What is the watermelon comment?? That wouldn't be directed at any group would it?? Evil Republicans, NO! Are some Republicans selfish, judgmental, and prone to harsh

While we may find something to agree on (I also think NCLB is a joke) don't you think the public schools should be held accountable?

I do count my blessings, but you see my son also has many symptoms of ataxic CP (caused by a traumatic cord accident), but because he is so above average and only has a few OT problems and I did such a good job giving him play therapy he gets ignored. Why should my son sit in school (where he is required to be) for 8 hours a day bored stiff being "taught" things he mastered in pre-k. I work and go to school so home school is out, and my job is too important to me to give up, yes I am that selfish. Its too important to me to go out and take care of ill people especially with the healthcare shortage, and it is his right to get the education that suits him. His teachers have done the best they can, but their hands are tied in many areas because of NCLB. Which btw the below average children's parents I know aren't very happy with it either. As far as accountability, that is a tough one, there are more ways to be accountable, but yes I do think they should be accountable. BTW I like the idea of vouchers, even if they aren't a liberal idea. There are wonderful private school in my area, but the tuition is comparable to college tuition, so it will have to wait until next year when I get a break from college tuition for me.

You do realize private schools have no public accountability.

The same type of thing is going on here in Minneapolis in preparation for the RNC.

Yes, and there are problems with the voucher system, and I will be paying for private school for my children with out them. But, I see your point, I'll have to think on that. Hmm, thanks for broadening my view today.:) In fact you have sparked quite a debate between my DH and I. I guess I am frustrated with the educational system, I am frustrated with my state's BOE, and I am really, really frustrated with NCLB. I know I can fight and get my own IEP, but I really do not see it helping that much. As far as for my ow use I have no problem with a lack of public accountability for private schools. But for the whole I do see that as an issue. Hmm, me thinks I'll have to think some more.

On NCLB....I have a big problem with vouchers because even if I got vouchers I doubt we would be able to pay for private school for 3 kids, even with both of us working. I feel like the public schools should

Why do I have the feeling that if the Republicans would have done this, you would be singing a very different tune?
