I mean this in an amicable way - and anyone can chime in. but i address it to knjess because she mentioned it elsewhere.
i am worried about reproductive rights; you are worried about gun rights. i am opposed to limits on abortion because i fear it will lead to total elimination of access to services; you are opposed to limits on guns because you fear it will lead to total elimination of access to guns. but neither of us believes in or participates in the extremes of our positions. i am personally opposed to late term abortion except when medically necessary for the life of the mother; you are personally opposed to ... some big gun I've never seen.
my question is: if we weren't so worried about the total restriction of our rights - if we could trust that some rights could be limited without the danger of giving up all rights - if someone could draw a clear line - what would our votes look like then?
maybe that's another way of asking, where do the people vote who want you to have your handgun for personal protection and your rifle for hunting and who also want access to the morning-after pill?
just wondering ...

Bill Maher says the Republicans are "Borrow and Spend" and the Democrats are "Tax and Pay the Bills".
I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure
I don't think you're confused, I think you understand exactly what my post was about. In the last 25 years or so, the Republican party has deserted those of us who still believed in small government and smaller government spending, hence why I no longer consider myself a "loyal" Republican, I am a conservative who believes in less government, less spending, less regulation, and more personal responsibility without as much "governmental bailout (not that I don't see that some bailouts such as Freddie and Fannie are absolutely necessary to protect our national interests, but it doesn't mean I like the fact that it was necessary)". In my younger years, I spent more time justifying the departure of the party from the conservative ideals I held, but now that I'm older, it's more easy for me to say that at this present point in time there is no political party that represents my views.
Republicans = small government?
