we've been having below, a friend send me this which I thought you all might enjoy.

Teacher's Salary

Teachers' hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year!

It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do…baby-sit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage. That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time.

That would be $19.50 a day (7:00 AM to 3:30 (or so) PM with just 25 min. off for lunch).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

NOW...

How many do they teach in a class, 30? So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day. However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! We're not going to pay them for any vacations.

A lot of money is relative.

Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

Most people aren't getting ahead at all these days.

Well, I'll say that the CEO's are getting ahead.

I agree with you in some respects, but those guys your DH works with are obviously from the southern half of the state - and yes, they make much more money than we do up here.

What affects teachers salaries is that they are public employees paid for by the public, and employed by the public.

Yes, I understand your position.

Here's how we can give teachers a raise:

  • Can all school buses; make it the responsibility of parents to get their children to and from school.

  • Get rid of all unneccesary classes such as home economics, shop, art, music, and get rid of unneccessary teachers that teach those classes

  • Stop paying people to cook lunches; stop providing lunch. Make parents send lunch to school, because it's the parents responsibility to feed their children.

  • Can all coaches, get rid of all extra-curricular activities that cost the school system

  • turn off all the lights and air at 2:30 p.m sharp

  • turn them back on at 7 a.m. right before the teachers arrive

  • get rid of office personnel

  • get rid of counselors

  • get rid of assistant principals

  • Can the school nurse; let parents pay for their own health care

  • get rid of all breaks between classes and shorten the school day; that way, teachers work less at the schools and have time for a part-time job on the side if they need more money

We can take all that extra taxpayer money and divide it equally among the teachers that are still hanging around.
