we've been having below, a friend send me this which I thought you all might enjoy.

Teacher's Salary

Teachers' hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year!

It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do…baby-sit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage. That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time.

That would be $19.50 a day (7:00 AM to 3:30 (or so) PM with just 25 min. off for lunch).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

NOW...

How many do they teach in a class, 30? So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day. However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! We're not going to pay them for any vacations.

So, anything over the poverty level is a pretty good salary?

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure

Yah, see - I think those 3 wonderful teachers should have the opportunity at higher pay raises.

Well it ain't bad, that's for sure!

I'm not saying we should all strive for 55 grand per year (hopefully much more) but I think that's a very reasonable salary.

It wasn't misinterpreted. There was a full discussion about it.

The Federal poverty level is riduculously low, something like 17K a year.

That depends on your area.

Housing prices have exploded in the Boston area in the last 15 years.

Yeah I saw what you said.

I guess $55,000 is a lot of money to ME, then. I mean, I'd be happy as a lark to make that! (SAHM-dom doesn't pay much you know)

OK so I'm not crazy then. (smile)

I find it hard to believe that someone can't live on $55,000 no matter what city you live in. I mean, you have to be responsible with it, I'm sure. I wouldn't go racking up 10's of thousands of dollars in debt if my salary wouldn't help me make payments...but many don't feel that way these days.

Of course, that's about to catch up with a whole bunch-o-people with this economy the way it is!
