I pretty much agree with all of you just didn't want to get jumped for being the first to say it ;)
I do not want to see a "mandatory for all" military service, and I do think there are some "criminals" (ie: juveniles that probably are in need of some guidance and discipline in their lives) who should be able to use the military as their "out". Has to be case by case though, IMO.
So you are for the war but against having your son sign up for selective services?? So, your for the war as long as it's someone else's son? I agree with there NOT being a mandatory service, but when McCain wins and we need to fight all of those "terrorists" were going to need your son's help. I would even be willing to sign your daughter up and send her over there.
"First of all....only males have to do it and not females, (and yes I have a daughter) Why this country engages in discrimination is beyond me. "
This is exactly why I was hesitant to answer this questions, because I know some people think of registering for the selective service *IS* a form of mandatory military service. Sure it is....but ONLY if we actually institute a draft again, which I fully believe is only used in absolutely extreme/dire need. I'm pretty sure my husband isn't alone when he says he doesn't want to work along side someone who doesn't want to be there with him, and the ranks know this.
As for the draft being discriminatory, I absolutely agree....our daughters should have to register too.
Lisa, one can support the war and not favor mandatory services.
People who do serve do so because they choose to.. would I want my child going off to war? No.. I wouldn't.. but I'd also have to view it as a compassion she might have to serve her country and protect our freedoms. Thankfully.. there are those that do believe that way and on today, Memorial Day.. I am very thankful of that

I would support a mandatory service, but not a mandatory military service.
Absolutely not.

I totally disagree with anything manditory.

I don't see how a girl can register if her job's a job and it isn't military.
