Obama raps McCain for ignorance of his own houses
WASHINGTON - John McCain may have created his own housing crisis.
Hours after a report that the Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting didn't know how many homes he and his multimillionaire wife own, Democratic rival Barack Obama launched a national TV ad and a series of campaign stops aimed at portraying McCain as wealthy and out of touch.
With the economy the top issue in the race, Obama sought to turn McCain's gaffe into one of those symbolic moments that stick in voters' minds

We have different ideas about a lot of things. Is the typical military officer an elitist? NO! Are there military officers who are? YES! Are military officers treated different then enlisted soldiers? Yes, you'd be lying to yourself to say otherwise.
I can attest to this fact. In 2002 I considered joining the military after getting my BA. I was going to join as an Officer. The recruitement officer told me if I wanted I could join as enlisted to get some of my student loans repaid but told me I would be treated much better if I went in as an Officer. Better housing, better job opportunities, less likely to see combat and all that. In the end I decided not to join at all but just wanted to chime in.
btw this is a very interesting discussion going back and forth and great to have the opinion of someone who has actually witnessed these things first hand.

An adjustable rate mortgage of 3.5%? What bank, what city?
Even with the prime rate being so very low over the past few years you didn't see mortgages below the prime rate except for maybe those that were actual home equity lines of credit and not actual mortgages.
So I'd suggest there is far more to that story!
If you think taking on such a risk to just break even is a good choice--you go for it! But then just don't come begging the government to bail you out when things don't work out as you'd planned.
If I had available to me an adjustable mortgage at 3.5%--I'd go for it but only if I had the funds available to pay it off in the event it increased to a rate I felt unreasonable. I could see such an arrangement being offered by the seller as a form of financing but I'm suspicious to hear of someone claiming to have obtained a 3.5% traditional adjustable rate mortgage in recent years. Sorry.
I did re-finance one mortgage that I had at 7.75% with a credit card at 1.7%. Not paying that one off anytime soon.
Your comment about having a brain was unnecessary. Many people with well functioning brains, unless they're real estate investors, don't know off-hand the premium generally paid for non-owner-occupied homes. Nor do they recognize there is typically a premium for loans under 100K either. Not to mention your rate could very well be lower because you paid more points etc...lots of reasons for different rates not all related to credit.
Oh I also blame the investors. Those bad loans couldn't have been made without someone dumb enough to be buying them!
I don't feel sorry for the borrows (except for maybe those who were victims of the aftermath), the banks or the investors.
I do feel sorry for those who pay taxes having to bail them all out.
"I don't believe just anyone can get into the military. They've learned their lessons with lowering standards. They may have loosened up things a bit in some areas but it's very minimal. "
Actually, pretty much ANYONE can get into the military.

I have a hard enough time keeping track of poster's handles, there is no way I"m going to remember posting names, unless folks use them in their posts (I have signatures turned off as I can't stand the blinky huge amounts of space nature of them).
