Obama raps McCain for ignorance of his own houses

WASHINGTON - John McCain may have created his own housing crisis.

Hours after a report that the Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting didn't know how many homes he and his multimillionaire wife own, Democratic rival Barack Obama launched a national TV ad and a series of campaign stops aimed at portraying McCain as wealthy and out of touch.

With the economy the top issue in the race, Obama sought to turn McCain's gaffe into one of those symbolic moments that stick in voters' minds

I just read in the paper today.....the homes that are owned are his wife's and many were aquired by inheritance.

I respectfully disagree. I am a landlord of many years and have acquired a number of house over that period. I own these homes with my DH. I asked him after the McCain "house" issue if he were asked off the cuff how many homes we "owned" what would he say....he pondered for a moment and said, "Nine?". I laughed. We actually currently own 12.

I can assure you my husband grew up in a lower middle class family and now he would be considered upper middle class. He's an extremely busy man who is not involved in the day to day management of our properties. I imagine John McCain may even be busier than him!

Now it was Barrack Obama who made the comment arugula comment last year if you recall:

FTR: I asked my husband if he knew what arugula was and he hadn't a clue. I'd imagine John McCain might not have known off the top of his head either.

It's really a stretch to call McCain and elitist. I don't hold anything against Mr.Obama for being a fan of arugula but he ought to hesitate before calling anyone else an elitist.

Did I say that the war should excuse his actions?

So when Edwards cheats it shows he has no integrity, but the fact that John McCain cheated on his first wife and left her for a wealthy younger woman has no bearing??? Now who has the double standard?

You don't own several "homes", you own several "houses" or "properties". We are specifically talking about how many homes or residences he owns. I'm pretty sure your dh knows how many places you call home.

A lot of men aren't going to know about arugula, if they don't cook or watch Food network. Just b/c Obama mentions arugula at whole foods he is an elitist? I don't agree. Also I am not denying that Obama is wealthy and I know if I was wealthy I would definitely shop at Whole Foods. Heck I'm not wealthy by any means but if we had a Whole Foods in my city I would love to shop there for the organic produce section alone. At least Obama has been grocery shopping enough to know that the price of food is up.

Exactly, I love the fact that he is supporting a store that supports the organic movement. Yet another reason to vote for Obama.

The finances are tough, people are losing their jobs and you want to vote for him on the fact that he has been to the grocery store and buys at Whole Foods.
