Obama raps McCain for ignorance of his own houses

WASHINGTON - John McCain may have created his own housing crisis.

Hours after a report that the Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting didn't know how many homes he and his multimillionaire wife own, Democratic rival Barack Obama launched a national TV ad and a series of campaign stops aimed at portraying McCain as wealthy and out of touch.

With the economy the top issue in the race, Obama sought to turn McCain's gaffe into one of those symbolic moments that stick in voters' minds

My numbers are hypothetical, but apply to both parties.

I disagree. The progressive tax system works for me. The earner of 400K is 240K, can afford the necessities with quite a big left over. The 30K takehome of the lower wage earner goes almost solely to necessities, food, clothing, shelter. In return for our taxes, we live in a safe, secure land of opportunity.

"I understand the truth hurts on some of these threads. I can't imagine what kind of person would abandoned his brother in a slum and live in riches while brother is living on a dollar a day."

I don't know that either Obama or McCain are elitists. I suppose it depends on what one means by the terms. In any case, I'm not sure that I would hold that against either candidate.

But the claim that he has "abandoned" his brother are misleading smears. First, it's his half-brother. Second, they've only met twice. They barely know each other. Third, that's the guy's home. He's as comfortable there as republicans are in their trailer parks and McMansion orchards. Most urban areas in Africa would be considered slums by American standards.

No I am not incorrect according to this link:

Obama and McCain Tax Proposals
According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are both proposing tax plans that would result in cuts for most American families. Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy. For the approximately 147,000 families that make up the top 0.1 percent of the income scale, the difference between the two plans is stark. While McCain offers a $269,364 tax cut, Obama would raise their taxes, on average, by $701,885 - a difference of nearly $1 million.

<$250,000 to pay in the range of 2 to 4 percent more in total (combined employer and employee) {NOTE - this is just increased Social Security taxes, not income taxes}>>

I am talking about incomes taxes.

If you want to talk fair that would mean that a flat rate should be applied to all income.

Mom - go look at Obama's own website...

Obama's own site notes that taxes go up for $250K earners...

As far as the SS tax goes, what you miss is the fact that benefits are also capped based on what income is taxed.
