Most of us realize that health insurance is broken.

<< Our government can do NOTHING efficiently and economically. They have made a disaster of the VA System (what a perfect model to show how the gov't. would handle healthcare in America...only worse!)>>

Adequately funded federal agencies actually do an excellent job. The Center for Disease Control, The National Institute of Health, The Library of Congress, The US Postal Service, The US military, NOAA, National Institute of Standards, The Patent and Trademark office, etc. The list goes on and on. Our government put a man on the moon and ran the space program. Our highway system was built with federal funding. Would you want to get into an airplane it there where no FAA to control air traffic?

In the past, I have worked for two Federal agencies and found them professional and well run. At the state level things can become more problematic but there are again very well run agencies.

Which government agencies do you see are being dysfunctional?
(Remember HomeLand Security is a Republican created and organized entity)

I am not really sure I agree with McCain/s plan either. But I would rather have a tax credit to pay for MY choice in health care then to pay higher taxes for the govt. choosing.

The problem with the tax credit is that you must first have a tax liability to be entitled to a tax credit. In order to achieve the full $5,000 tax credit your income level need to be around $50,000 assuming standard deductions. More than 41% of American earn less than this.

The other problem is that the cost of a family health insurance plan that is comparable to most group plans is around $12,000. The $5,000 won't buy much. I recently had some out patient knee surgery which cost $9,100. That $5,000 also has to cover the cost of medication.

Perhaps other could speak to this but I would assume that $5,000 would only buy catastrophic coverage, the rest would be out of pocket.
