McCain To Obama: Leave Limbaugh Alone!»

Over the past week, the fealty of GOP lawmakers to hate radio host Rush Limbaugh has become increasingly clear. They have been reluctant to criticize his comment that he hopes Obama fails, and those who have spoken out have been forced to retract their statements and beg forgiveness from the hate radio host.

Today on Fox and Friends, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) further circled the wagons, saying that Obama shouldn’t have made critical remarks about Limbaugh (which were made in a private meeting with Republicans and then leaked to the press):

McCAIN: I don’t know why he would do that. Mr. Limbaugh is a voice of a significant portion of our conservative movement in America. He has a very wide viewing audience. He is entitled to his views, and he has a lot of people who listen very carefully to him. I don’t know why that the President would take him on.

The exact thing that Rush said, because I watched his interview with Sean Hannity, is that if "Obama wants to enact socialism, then I hope he fails". It's more of a policy thing than it is a personal thing. Rush doesn't nor has never agreed with Obama's policies. He didn't say he wants Obama to fail, he just hopes his policies do because they're socialistic policies.

1) No, that's not the "exact thing he said" on Hannity.

Of course, this relies on an inaccurate definition of 'socialism'

Katie

No, no, no, no! Come, let's away to prison.

We two alone will sing like birds i' th' cage.

When thou dost ask me blessing, I'll kneel down

And ask of thee forgiveness. So we'll live,

And pray, and sing, and tell old tales, and laugh

At gilded butterflies, and hear poor rogues

Talk of court news, and we'll talk with them too—

Who loses and who wins, who's in, who's out—

And take upon 's the mystery of things

As if we were God's spies. And we'll wear out

In a walled prison packs and sects of great ones

That ebb and flow by the moon.

Didn't he go on hannity to clarify his original statement on his radio program, in which he said that he didn't want the president to succeed? Wasn't the Hannity appearance damage control?

1) Just to clarify, that wasn't the "exact thing" he'd said on Hannity

Let's go ahead and discuss the original transcript, which I am going to post along with the website.

RUSH: I got a request here from a major American print publication.

You have to credit Limbaugh (as obnoxious as he is) for his brilliant tactics.

Of course Rush (and some of his supporters) wants Obama to fail...he wants all liberals to fail. He thinks liberalism is a disease...calls us kool-aid drinkers..I don't know why it's suprising he said he wants Obama and all his policies to fail. He wants Obama to fail to say SEE I TOLD YOU SO! I'm sure quite a few conservatives agree with him. It's not the least bit suprising to me. He and *shiver* Anne Coulter only want people to be thier brand of neo-conservative.... they want anyone else to fail miserably. It gives them more reasons to spew thier charming brand of hatred about how everyone is horrible but them. Rush is a big boy...I hardly think he needs John McCain rushing to his defense. President Obama has more than Rush cheering for him to fail...I don't see what the big fuss is about.
