Seriously? I think it is quite simple. She backed him, because he was willing to make her the vice president. He made her famous.

I am also scratching my head at the "notoriety" comment. The man has been the people of Arizona's senator for the last 23 years. It's not as if they suddenly are more aware of him because he was the Republican candidate for president in 2008.

~Well you can't say his name isn't out there.. LOL .. so yes, he has notoriety.~

I'm just surprised that's why you think people in his state would vote for him now, as notoriety is more negative, than say, fame and he's been elected to their senate time and time again for decades. Presumably a lot of them think he's done a good job?

~By the time I was able to vote in NC, the GOP candidate was sealed. I only voted for the guy because there were NO other Rep candidates that could win at that point.. ~

This is what I'm wondering about... didn't conservatives help pick him as the GOP candidate?

~I don't know why Palin backed him.~

I guess had it been me saying that I didn't know why, I'd be accused by some of hating and envying her, so I'll sit on my hands now :)

eta iced tea is ready for anybody interested :)

Being from AZ, I can tell you that Hayworth is no prize either. I am an independent and was actually allowed to vote in the primaries this year.

Hayworth has a history of being a "shyster" and I think a lot of conservatives just don't trust him. Those sleazy infomercials he did a while back didn't do him any favors either.

I seriously doubt that Sarah Palin had ANYTHING to do with McCain winning the primary. It was more likely the $20M cash advantage he had.

I appreciate your input :)

Well, I guess Palin didn't hurt McCain.. because if people detest her as much as some say, they wouldn't have voted for him. No doubt the 20 Mil had a whole lot to do with it.

McCain supported over turning Roe V Wade.

Against human cloning

He has a Pro Life voting record

He's against gay marriage as well

He must have some message that resonates with the people of Arizona

I don't think that everyone detests her. Some are neutral, and some seem to be big fans to the point that they consider any criticism of her, any jest or discussion that's not flattering enough, to be born of deep hatred and wild jealousies.

To have been elected into office there over and over and over again for decades, I'd say yes. Unless there truly was nobody better to run against him with any hope of receiving enough support?

You hit the nail on the head.

Hayworth is a weasel. He just isn't very trustworthy. In this particular primary election, McCain was simply the lesser of two evils.

Nothing more, nothing less.
