"Was this based on tax returns or what people said they gave?"

I believe if you read the webpage linked, you'll find your answer. ;)

"BTW, I never said Republicans didn't give money to charity."

I never said you said that. I was quoting an entirely different poster, but I addressed my post to "All" because I didn't want anyone thinking I was directing my post at any individual when in fact I was directing it to the statement which I quoted which said specifically that Republicans think everyone should fend for themselves. ;)

I suppose they COULD relate to any race, but I took the words for what they were. I was trying to use the words given to me in my example.

See...the way this board works...if I were to throw in an example about a white person...then a post or two later I'd be told that white people weren't even mentioned in the list of 10.

And then we'd be having the exact same discussion...'cept I'd be racist because I neglected to mention the black people in my example.

It's a no-win situation for me at this point.

You are not in my mind so they only thing you can tell is your interpretation of my words.

This is why I don't even like discussing race.. because it ends up this way.

Don't try to tell me that every person has boot straps.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure

I didn't have to be in your mind. I used your written (typed) words!

Saying everyone has bootstraps is not judging. Every single person (unless severely ill or disabled) has the ability to strive for more. Every human is born with free will and we ALL have bootstraps.

Now...whether they choose to use them or not...well that's up to them.

Everyone does not have the tools to actually attain more no matter how hard they strive.

"Everyone does not have the tools to actually attain more no matter how hard they strive. The tools to get there are the bootstraps."

Then how do you explain the success stories? You know, the ones that went from literally nothing? Even if they were offered help along the way, they had to ACCEPT the help, they had to have the FORTITUDE to carry on, they had to have the DETERMINATION to make something of themselves?

I believe everyone, everyone has bootstraps. IME/O, whether they choose to use them, accept the help to find them tucked down in their shoes, or use ingenuity to make the straps stronger is up to individual free will.
