Looks like at least two Dem Senators and a host of economic advisors will stop Obama's plans he stated over the weekend....I can hope.

I think that if this is to happen, the deficit hawks need to absolutely back off on their desire for program cuts. The whole idea of letting the tax cuts for the wealthy sunset out was because there was tremendous pressure about cutting the deficit.

We need to cut the spending to decrease the deficit.

I think we need to do both increase taxes and cut spending. I like most of your ideas for cutting spending, and the 99 weeks unemployment subsidy is already gone...the recipients are receiving their last checks and tier 3 is over. We need to realize that we can't have everything for nothing. Taxes must be increased to pay down the debt, because we're paying interest on that debt.

Obama mentioned in his interview that there were better ways to spend that money...meaning the tax increases on the over 250k crowd.

The deficit commission report comes out in November. We shall see. I'd be perfectly happy to let the tax cuts sunset. I have no problem with it.
