Palin rebukes Obama, Crist over abortion

Sarah Palin has called President Obama the most pro-abortion president ever and criticized Senate candidate and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist for vetoing a bill that called for women to get ultrasounds before having the procedure.

"The biggest advance of the abortion industry in America is the passage of Obamacare," said Palin during a speech Thursday in Jacksonville, Fla. "Elective abortions have nothing to do with health care. It's about ending lives, not saving lives."

The Congressional Research Service last month said that, under certain situations, the Obama administration's health care overhaul could permit elective abortions in the new, federally funded "Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plans," which will provide coverage in the states for high-risk uninsured people who have been turned away by private insurers.

The former Alaska governor went on to admonish Crist for his June veto, saying that "he forgot that when it comes to protecting the sanctity of life, actions speak louder than words."

Crist said he put his personal "pro-life" views aside and vetoed the bill because it would have placed "an inappropriate burden on women seeking to terminate pregnancy."

Palin's comments were delivered at a fundraiser for Heroic Media, a group that uses billboards and television advertisements to try to direct women to crisis pregnancy centers instead of opting for abortions.

Hmmmm...

I haven't heard Obama "promote" abortion at all. He just respects that women should have the right to choose.

Very true.

But doesn't "pro-abortion" sound, oh, so much worse than pro-choice?

I do think that the rightwing uses memes/terms so very successfully. It is a way to mislead, and it works so well that I think it gives those who are good at it political advantage. Let's face it, not all pro-life people are really for all human life. They're pro-unborn human life. Many of them are vehemently against using welfare dollars to support impoverished mothers and their children. Many are against providing health care coverage to the poor that would promote health and save lives. Some of them are also pro-death penalty. Pro-life? For many, it is a misnomer. I call them "anti-abortion," because it more accurately reflects their stance. I call the pro-choice crowd, "pro-choice," because they don't seem to promote abortion at all. They just refuse to want to legislate away a woman's right to choose.

No one is pro-abortion. Just like no one is pro-war or pro-murder (death penalty). It becomes very sticky when you start to chose what rights people should and shouldn't have. Why should someone not not be allowed to do something because someone else religious beliefs forbid it? Sarah Palin , IMO, will say or do anything to make money. Obama has never touted abortions as an awesome thing.
