Palin rebukes Obama, Crist over abortion
Sarah Palin has called President Obama the most pro-abortion president ever and criticized Senate candidate and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist for vetoing a bill that called for women to get ultrasounds before having the procedure.
"The biggest advance of the abortion industry in America is the passage of Obamacare," said Palin during a speech Thursday in Jacksonville, Fla. "Elective abortions have nothing to do with health care. It's about ending lives, not saving lives."
The Congressional Research Service last month said that, under certain situations, the Obama administration's health care overhaul could permit elective abortions in the new, federally funded "Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plans," which will provide coverage in the states for high-risk uninsured people who have been turned away by private insurers.
The former Alaska governor went on to admonish Crist for his June veto, saying that "he forgot that when it comes to protecting the sanctity of life, actions speak louder than words."
Crist said he put his personal "pro-life" views aside and vetoed the bill because it would have placed "an inappropriate burden on women seeking to terminate pregnancy."
Palin's comments were delivered at a fundraiser for Heroic Media, a group that uses billboards and television advertisements to try to direct women to crisis pregnancy centers instead of opting for abortions.
