I have honestly had it with people thinking that Democrats are "godless",they are actually going against Jesus's teachings of "Judge not and be yea not judged"

Dole was wrong to run this ad, as apparently Hagan is a church-attending Christian, and has even taught Sunday School.

However, as an atheist, I am troubled that everyone seems to think that this is the absolute worst possible thing you could suggest about someone. :(

I agree with you! When did we become a society that is so intolerant of people's religious preferences? That's the same idea that it's so scary that Sen Obama is a Muslim. He isn't a Muslim, but the fact remains -- what if he were? Would that instantly make him a horrible and scary person that isn't worthy of public office?

It's a sad thing.

I have lived in NC for a very long time.

I used to live in NC - moved away 2 years ago and I miss it A LOT!!! All my family still lives there and I follow NC news probably more than I follow MD/DC news (where I live now). I think that Elizabeth Dole should have never gotten that senate seat in the 1st place. She's barely lived in NC and has done little to nothing for the state. Plus - she rarely ever comes to NC and from what I understand, lots of people (even many republicans that I know) are really ticked off with her. The campaign she has run has just been more of the same fear and smear and I think (I hope!) that people are tired of this and will "reward" her efforts by booting her from her seat.

I didn't always agree with Jesse Helms (hardly ever about many things) but the reason he was SO popular in NC and was re-elected time and time again was that he really had the state's best interest in mind while working in the senate. He would always take time to talk to constituents (with the one exception of my husband trying to get a meeting with Ol' Jesse when he was in college to discuss the Cuban embargo - hehe). Conversely, Elizabeth Dole has made herself very unavailable to her constituents, at least in my experience, and most North Caolinians agree that she has not made looking out for NC one of her priorities. I wish I still lived there so I could vote against her - yet again.

I am so irritated that after living in NC all my life, this is the one election where NC is a swing state for every major position - president, US senate, and governer - and I'm not there to vote :(

Update - it's being called the "Scummiest ad of this campaign".

You don't understand the mindset of the people who live in the state and how important religion is to many people.

it is fine to live by faith. but why does that have to imply that it is 'wrong' to be a non-believer? it just doesnt seem very tolerant to me

I don't believe that campaign ad had anything to do with religion.
