As a mom, the economy and the lack of any substantial recovery has me concerned.

I've got 3 children in college now.

Obama's speech instilled no hope in me. I hate to agree with pundits, but that speech was indeed pathetic. 'Raise the debt ceiling and businesses will start hiring'? Honestly? Extend "my" middle class tax cuts. Spend money to put workers from the housing construction business to work building infrastructure of roads and bridges- didn't he just admit recently that these jobs don't exist as promised in the stimulus bill? Does he not realize that just because someone knows how to build a house it does not mean they can build roads or bridges- training takes money.
It was a speech of just what he's been saying all along. If it hasn't worked up till now, what's magically going to change?

We seem to be entering or have entered a phase of stagflation.

While the economy is a stinker at the moment, and we've got a clueless communist at the helm, I don't see any reason for more than studied concern.

I need some of that positive outlook. I can't imagine how I would feel if my husband or I were out of work. I'm just so concerned for my kids.

"We've had over Ten years of the Bush Tax Cuts. Very few job, if any (IMO) were created. "
Obama now calls them his tax cuts.

While the actual jobs for road construction and similar jobs my not be hard, it is not a quick process, it takes time money and certification. Even the flaggers need training and certification (varies by state) http://www.workzonesafety.org/training/flagger_training

I'm not sure that a compromise is the answer to the economy, it's having a plan. I used to think that Obama at least had one, even if it was based in liberal economic policy vs. conservative economic policy. After his speech this morning I don't think he really has a clue. He's campaigning, using much of the old tired rhetoric. Honestly, how many times is he going to be ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work? I don't want to hear that one more time. I don't want to hear about the infrastructure jobs that don't exist, especially after he just months ago admitted they were never there (he seemed to even find it somewhat amusing). I don't want to hear that he inherited a mess. We know that, he campaigned on fixing the economic issues that were a reality at the end of Bush's tenure. He's wrapping up his first term. Bush Sr. didn't get a 2nd term largely in part b/c he didn't turn the economy around enough from the recession he found himself presented with. It's time for Obama to actually take some ownership- he better b/c there is no other President right now to do so. I don't want to hear the media spin the news with comments like 'job growth slowed' as I saw from Reuters today. Slowed my behind. This news was unexpected and was more than a slowing. Today he suggested that companies would be able to hire if the debt ceiling was increased. What? The debt ceiling is raised to allow for government to increase their debt. Our debt. Raising the debt ceiling is going to stimulate jobs?

Here, road construction doesn't require a certification.
