Obama and no Checks & Balances

Is anyone else worried that Obama probably will win the presidency, the Democrats very likely will have control over both houses of Congress, and there might be enough votes to break the filibuster? I would be OK if one or two of these factors happened, but not all three. We will have no Checks & Balances. I would feel this way whether the Republicans or the Democrats had power. No party ever should be this dominant and have this much power. Is anyone else worried about the potential loss of our Checks & Balances?

I want Obama to win but it does give me pause if they have total control and are fillibuster proof.

I like the checks and balances of our government.

That makes me so sad that your SO was treated that way.

I'm sorry he's not the same, but I've heard that story before.

How old was your SO when he went to war?

Luckily, my SO was much older than 18 when he went. He had a chance to grow up and experience life before seeing the things he saw and I truly think that's why he is as well adjusted as he is. He graduated college and taught high school for a year before deciding to sign up. So he actually made the decision to join as an adult, which I do not think most 18 year olds are doing. He was 23 when he went in, 25 in Iraq and 27 when he got out.

You make a lot of good points and seem much more well versed on government that I, lol, (and I'm probably twice your age.)

I'm sorry he's struggled since he's been back, but it does make me feel a little better to know he wasn't an idealistic 18 year going to fight the bad guys. ; )

Thanks! I have to say that I don't know nearly as much as I should or could when it comes to tax issues as I have had very little experience with paying my own taxes. That part of politics bores me, even though I know it's very important. I guess I'll learn, right? : )

My SO is a history teacher and his sister is getting her doctorate in political science so I'm surrounded by politics.

I guess you are surrounded by politics, then.
