So what does everyone think about it? Did he "cross the aisle"? Did the GOP win? Is there anyone who is truly happy with the outcome?

I don't think anyone really won, especially the American people. I'm still reading about it as I find that so far most articles are more bent on political gamesmanship instead of honest analysis. That always takes time though and never garners much attention. It's not as fun as calling people names.
It is the best we could do under the circumstances, which was a small group of people held the government hostage, akin to a game of chicken where one party cares not if they crash and die.
Obama was correct to seek tax increases on the wealthy. All that nonsense about low taxes on the wealthy translates to jobs is nonsense, methodology begun 30 years ago, and with that length of time to demonstrate it isn't what creates jobs. When Obama was elected, he was handed an awful mess to deal with. He didn't create the current conditions, but to hear the right talk on it, you would think he caused it all, conveniently ignoring actual facts.
But seriously, I think it's evident that neither "side" was going to get it's way. And, IMO, it shouldn't be that way anyway. We do need to compromise because our population is made up of distinctly different people who want different things for the country.
