Obama supporters taking homeless to vote

Is anyone else confused as to how these homeless people are able to register to vote when they don't have any ID?

>>comparatively, I think that instant communications have also made it easier to find the truth, and de-bunk false rumors...i think it has been a possitive change.
I think you're right, but I think that not everyone is availing themselves of these nonpartisan truth-squad sites. In all, I think the Internet is a den of despicable rumors and innuendo. Just read some threads by some of our tried-and-true radicals on this board and elsewhere on ivillage.
What never ceases to amaze me is the lack of understanding that many voters show about their rights and responsibilities. Quite frankly, it astonishes me that more people don't know that there is no federal voter id law in our country. This has been an enormous issue of late in the Congress. Additionally, it's shocking to me that more don't know that the issue of felons voting is determined on the state level. Those laws vary from state to state. And again, that has been an enormous legal discussion in our country over the last year or two.

just heard a rumor from a friend in Dayton, OH.
The Republicans have rented all the vans in town for election day, to keep Democrats from using them to shuttle indigent and infirmed voters. They have also *hired* volunteers to stand in voting lines all day to keep the lines long and discourage working-class voters who don't have time to waste.
how does that even work?
i get the van rental thing (and i have heard of that tactic being used in the past.
but how can someone stand in line all day?
loitering?
that has to be illegal.

>.I don't remember an election being so dirty before, does anyone else feel this way?
John McCain probably would say the 2000 primary, when GWB smeared his good name. Those tactics were absolutely reprehensible. I felt so bad for McCain. GWB and his campaign should have been ashamed.

Great post, sarah. As I understand the issue, there are much larger concerns with *election* fraud than *voter* fraud. And the biggest issues are with the voting machines themselves.

On its face, that makes a lot a sense. Practically speaking, these laws can disenfranchise those who do not have the means to get an ID. In some states where they have required IDs (Georgia, I believe?), the state offered an ID to those without a drivers license -- for a price. Opponents to this law voiced concern that those in poverty could not afford to get the ID. They argued that this was paramount to a vote toll or tax.
It's a sticky issue for sure.

I dunno. i figure you get 10 people to stand in line for 15 minutes, get to the front, leave and go to the bathroom, get at the end and do it all over again. then trade places with loiterers at the next polling place. the point is merely to make the line look long.
just a rumor ...
