I know it is endlessly brought up how Obama is going to cut taxes for 95% of working families.

ok, i see the sentiment here, but i personally wouldn't lose sight of the fact that the spa treatments were earned by the person recieving them, where as the 40k for gas / food was earned by soemone other than the recipient.....i am not saying you are...but just before this spirals in that direction.>>

-see, i dont have a problem taking their money. and in actuality, i dont think it will even really hurt them (the top 1 percent) because when you are a MULTI millionaire, a few hundredgrand doesnt seem so significant. AND the more money with middle class has, the more they spend, which helps the economy as a whole.>>

Then again if they are giving it to a resort for a spa treatment they are helping keep many people employed which is good for the economy.

My apologies for saying never. I should know better. The theory still makes no sense to me...but again...to each their own. I am not judging.....just saying....I had not heard of it before today and it doens't compute with me.

Basically, if you see no problem picking the pocket of the guy in head of you in the economic line, don't be surprised when the guy behind you in line has no problem picking your pocket.

Just thought that was worth repeating.

" Please explain how a hedge fund manager works harder than a plumber or a policeman or a migrant worker?"

Having a blue collar job does not automatically equate with being a hard worker, having a good work ethic, etc.

Dh has recently been saying that he thinks colleges should teach kids how to dress, and eat, general manners before they start interviewing. He came from a background where he didn't learn those things from his parents. His friends and his girlfriend had to teach him those things.

My DH worked as a career counselor for a couple of years at a local university and he would certainly agree with that idea.

I used to be the hiring manager for Toys R Us....and I never ever hired anyone who came to an interview looking like a slob. Granted....I never expected suit and tie...but I did expect people to show some ability to be clean and neat and have some self respect and good manners. If I got an application that had stains or was folded like oragami....or with handwritting I couldn't read..it was automatically rejected. I was brought up to interview looking your best and practicing good manners. I never hired anyone who slouched back in their seat or kicked the chair back on 2 legs either. It always showed me that they weren't really serious and would not make good workers. The one time another boss over-rode me on this.....I hired someone who came in dirty and slouchy..they lasted 1 day. There really should be some sort of class for this. Even hiring for retial work.....it leaves a lasting impression and never made me want to hire anyone who had no self-respect.

We'll just have to agree to disagree about this. I know quite a few people who Obama considers "wealthy". 2 of them were the bottom two people in their high school graduating class and are now quite successful although they are in very different careers. They both did it on their own, no help from parents. Actually every person I know who is successful had parents of very little means and they all paid their own way through school. So if you mean starting with very little is the key then you might be right. ;-)

My son just graduated in May and after working extremely hard to find a job he does have a job in his field. One beef I have with the school he attended is that they don't counsel the kids on what they can do with the major they've chosen. He has a friend who is extremely smart who has been unable to find a job in his field (although I don't know how hard he's tried because he never worked very hard in school). If someone had suggested a slightly different major this friend would have had his pick of jobs because he somehow had excellent grades.

I have another son who chose a different college and in his first semester freshman year they are already discussing internships and are being introduced to the different specialties within his chosen major. If he sticks with this major he will have a job before graduation.

And I have a problem with the mentality that doesn't see a problem in taking their money, just because they have more to begin with.
