"Q: Is an abortion clinic bomber a terrorist, under this definition, governor?
PALIN: (Sigh). There’s no question that Bill Ayers via his own admittance was one who sought to destroy our U.S. Capitol and our Pentagon. That is a domestic terrorist. There’s no question there. Now, others who would want to engage in harming innocent Americans or facilities that uh, it would be unacceptable. I don’t know if you’re going to use the word terrorist there."

UGH UGH UGH. There are no words for the disgust I have for this woman. Anyone want to explain to me how clinic bombing ISN'T terrorism? Is this supposed to be her pandering to her "base"?
BTW, terrorist/terrorism:
"is violence against civilians to achieve political or ideological objectives by creating fear..."
www.wikipedia.odjechane.net/en/wiki/Terrorism.html
"is defined by the US Department of Defense as "the unlawful use of -- or threatened use of -- force or violence against individuals or ..."

webster dictionnary
"ter·ror·ism
Pronunciation: \ˈter-ər-ˌi-zəm\
Function: noun
Date: 1795
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion"
UGH.

Palin does say at the end of her answer that anyone who would seek to bomb the US Capitol, Pentagon or harm U.S. citizens is in that category (referring to whether abortion clinic bombers are domestic terrorists).
The link you posted did not show her complete answer.

So you like socialism? What has a socialist nation ever accomplished?>>
I know this wasn't directed at me, but I was giving these questions some thought and wanted to share my thoughts. I grew up like most American kids being taught about how evil the USSR was and how communism/socialism were the antithesis of everything we stood for. Then when I went to college, I had to read the Communist Manifesto for a class. And well, it took me by surprise. I could totally see how what's in that book was appealing to a lot of people before the whole Soviet mess happened. Some of the core ideas about equal opportunity and equal benefit for all seemed not so far off from what I had been taught were American values. The book just proposes a different type of government structure for accomplishing it. In its essence, there is nothing wicked about it. So I've been doing a little researching trying to refresh my memory on this stuff, and here is what I think are some answers to your question, if you are interested.
First, I wouldn't say that Obama is a socialist, because he's only advocating that people should have insurance, not for a nationalization of the healthcare system. I don't see anything in his policies that suggests that he wants nationalization of our natural resources, basic industries, banking and credit institutions, and public utilities--things that are basic tenets of real socialism. He wants public programs, yes, but that's far more in line with what we'd call a liberal than a socialist. Even if he was left of a socialist senator doesn't mean he is a socialist, because the right-left, conservative-liberal spectrum is independent from the socialist/capitalist spectrum. I truly wish that he had never used the phrase "spread the wealth around," because I really think he opened the door for a lot of misconceptions.
Second, modern socialism really isn't like communism. Modern socialists work toward social reforms within a capitalist society. During the 90s, most of the countries in the European Union were under the control of socialist political parties, and they aren't communist. Even in our country, there are certain things that we believe should be nationalized, like education. We have public education because we think its important that all kids should have a fair opportunity to learn, and education shouldn't be limited to only the families who can afford to send their kids to private school.
So I really do believe that people are calling Obama a "socialist" just to evoke those associations we grew up with regarding the Soviet Union and make voters nervous.
And I realize this post has nothing to do with Palin and clinic bombing, so forgive my off-topicness, please. :-)
First satellite and first man in space...
Thanks for posting this before I could.
thank you - this is the best response I have seen to the "socialism" argument.
And for whoever it was that said it (I cant remember) Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist, like the gov't of Sweden, not like Communist China. It is NOT even close to being the same thing. Although Sanders has nothing to do with Obama anyway...
