It might have something to do with that S-Chip Veto.

Because the employer based system isn't working.

"Because the employer based system isn't working."

And Medicaid, Medicare, and Tricare are such shining examples?

this is your logic:

because we as the richest nation in the world are unable and unwilling to provide care for the elderly and mentally disabled, we should definitely NOT provide healthcare for children. because what would be the use in providing preventive care so that lifetime diseases can be overcome in the young - so they don't become incapacitating and EXPENSIVE to treat in adults. and maybe impair their quality of life for years.

"For the people in the middle that don't quite make enough to afford insurance, but make to much for assistance, those are the ones I feel bad for. Even still, there are still options. You may not be able to go to the doctor on the corner, but there are doctors out there still that don't charge an arm and a leg for a visit. My regular GP charges $35/patient, and will not take insurance. He says he keeps his costs down by not dealing with it."

the healthcare program is meant to assist exactly those families.

and your solution is grand - if you are lucky enough to not have a catastrophic illness. what happens when you child is diagnosed with a chronic illness? one that requires expensive tests, specialists, hospitalization, etc. your $35 doc won't cut it.

Exactly. Another excellent point. No matter who is elected - we have a congress and senate for a reason, including individuals from both parties and both sides of the fence.
