What a sick piece of work she is.

Nice, un-biased source of info you got there. If you are REALLY interested in educating yourself, perhaps you'd like to read what MSNBC posted about the wolf bounty http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17735990/ Maybe the defenders of wildlife do not care about the Native Alaskan populations who rely on moose and caribou to live their lives, but Alaskans do, as does our governor. We all love our wolves and our fish and game programs work very hard to keep their populations steady and healthy. Perhaps you'd prefer a more "natural" population control... you know the kind where the wolves hunt moose and caribou to such low levels there is no longer enough food to support the wolf population and hundreds of animals starve to death? Predator population control is a necessary program up here, and it's good for people AND the animals (if you want to debate the aerial hunting versus trapping, we can do that, but I doubt you'd like the program either way). I live in an area that has both bears and wolves and we don't hate them, or even really fear them, although we do respect them. We lock up our garbage and don't leave our small animals outside alone. They are a part of our life and even if we don't treat them the in a way that "Defenders of Wildlife" approve of, it doesn't mean we don't care for either them, or our environment.
*sigh* i really wish they wouldn't use this. it is true but not able to be understood by most of us in the lower 48. i don't condone this and neither do all Alaskans. however, it is best if they make that decision - and it is sad that the governor did not let them by discounting the previous two votes and adding a third vote.
once again, i fear this detracts from the real issues.

In Alaska, wolves are considered vermin.
Nice to meet you Ms Palin!
Exactly what issue do you have with the video? It fully illustrates the killing of wolves advocated by Palin.
The fact is that Palin endorses the killing of animals - some of which are on the endangered list.
Why is that a problem? Does it offend your sensibilities? We have taken away too much land from the wild animals who have been there for eons. They are not being hunted for food by starving people. They are being killed for sport. Killing for sport
do you live in Alaska? what is your reference for vermin? because this article from the local news affiliate and "seems" to cover both sides. it talks about "predator management" by a government agency as standard practice. this measure was about giving Joe Blow the right to aerial kills - actually about paying them for aerial kills.
http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=8851174
"The Department of Fish and Game has implemented aerial predator management programs to just a handful of sub units across the state, but Connor argues that there is no real science behind Fish and Game's decision on where those programs should be put into place.
"There's no real proven science behind what the carrying capacity of the land is and what the ratio ultimately should be to achieve the goals of artificially boosting caribou and moose numbers," said Connor.
The only thing both sides seem to agree upon is that the moose and caribou population should be protected but continue to disagree on how to do so.
Measure 2 also applies to grizzly bears and wolverines."
Again, not an issue i would like to discuss relative to other important subjects but i don't want to see it distorted either.
Bea
again, do you live in Alaska? is this discussion closed to only those who live in Alaska? because the majority were against this practice until Palin put it on the ballot - for the third time - with advertising.

Gov. Palin does NOT endorse killing animals on the endangered list. She just wants the Polar Bears removed from the endangered list because they are NOT endangered and the amount of paperwork that is required to do anything with lands they inhabit is costing Alaskans a LOT of money, their hunting would still be prohibited.
And yes, moose and caribou are killed for FOOD by subsistence hunters(these people really don't have super markets to stop by... they occasionally receive staples by little prop planes that fly into their villages, but they survive by eating caribou and moose and fish). Some animals are killed by sport hunters (and these hunters are lead into the bush by Alaskans, who again, rely on their money to support their families). Other moose and caribou are killed by residents that supplement their family's diets with wild game, it is a way of life up here and I'm sorry it offends you so deeply.

I'm not a Palin fan and I think she is a joke of a VP candidate - I'll go ahead and put that out there. However, saying that she is a "sick piece of work" based on the contents of an obviously biased smear video is just plain wrong. So I don't have to type it again, I'll cut and paste the contents below of an excerpt of the response I made to a prior post about this issue:
It is irritating when politicians (ALL OF THEM) use our emotions as a weapon against their rivals. What is INFURIATING to me is that we (as a general population) FALL FOR IT EVERY TIME. It is SO effective. In fact some could argue that it is the MOST effective way to get votes. We have to STOP letting ourselves be manipulated by the fear mongering and other emotional manipulations they throw at us. If you see something that makes you angry, or scared, or any other emotion about a political candidate, check your emotion for 10 seconds, and go find the TRUTH. Then you can make a decision about whether to be outraged. I am not sure about the context of shooting wolves in this video. It looks bad to me, but before I get my panties all in a wad, so to speak, I need to determine the truth behind the propaganda. With the internet, there are a few good websites that are generally non-biased places to get the facts. My favorite is http://www.factcheck.org. It only takes a minute or two to find the truth, but the reality is that it is so much easier just to believe what you are told. Please, for the sake of our country and all that is good about the human race - think for yourselves and get the facts. Don't let yourself be manipulated. The next time you see a smear ad on TV (for either side) you should be OUTRAGED.
If any of you are interested in reading the entire contents of my message (which was much longer) or of the previous thread where this was discussed at length, see link below.
