And yet people like my ex father-in-law also believe they will be able to protect themselves just because they have a loaded gun. For some it is true, but for many others it ends in tragedy when a loved one is killed just because there was access to a loaded gun. For myself, I have an ex who threatened to kill me when I filed for divorce - I have moved and made a life for myself far from him, but should his father not get rid of the guns before his death I have to contend with the fact that my ex, his son, will have access to many many guns.

"Guns and domestic violence are a lethal combination - injuring and killing women every day in the United States. A gun is the weapon most commonly used in domestic homicides. In fact, more than three times as many women are murdered by guns used by their husbands or intimate acquaintances than are killed by strangers’ guns, knives or other weapons combined."

So regardless of your views you will never be able to convince me that it is a good idea to have guns in a home.

no one is making you have guns in your house.

By the same token, I know I will keep a gun.

I'm well aware of that.

In case the thinking here is that Palin wants us to have guns, and Obama doesn't... that isn't exactly the case.

he remained co-operative until the police were able to come (about 15 minutes later...) and collect the fellow.

Good for you, and keeping your wits. This is an instance where a gun in the home was used as intended and nobody got hurt.

If you know any psychology, Bush blowing up frogs as a child has alot to do with his character, even as an adult.

Only if he's a mass murderer like Dahmer~and please don't refer to the Iraq war. He's not the only decision maker who decided to engage in war ever in the span of the universe. I hardly doubt they all blew up frogs.

Yes they are both cases of irresponsibility - but that is the problem - guns often fall into the hands of irresponsible people. Even guns that were legally purchased - in my ex fil's case his children have failed him and I have no legal standing. If I had tons of money I could file a lawsuit and have him declared incompetent - but where would I get the money? His wife is no more competent than he is so no help there.

Guns are very often used against the people who purchased them, or other innocent bystanders.
