Perhaps we simply define compassionate differntly, you in such a manner as words such as the above indicate compassion, my in such a manner that word such as the above do not.
How about if you don't bother to pay for insurance then you pay for your health care needs out of pocket? Did you ever stop to wonder (as someone suggested) how all the mandates and regulation (government meddling) into the system has caused the costs to grow out of control? Or how about the waste, fraud and abuse due to the massive subsidies handed out to a major number of people by the government? Ever wonder how that has lead to costs spiraling out of control?
Why should you get to pass along your $200,000 home to your heirs while walking away from your health care bills?
So many things with the system are broken. Ridiculous pricing that is not standardized in any way, no ability for providers to collect from those who refuse to pay...and there exists many of those who could be chose not to. It's not like you can repossess the care you've provided if they don't want to pay the bill like you can with a mortgage or car loan.
Why does the same medication for an animal cost so much less than for a human? Because it can....it's amazing how prices work when someone else is paying the bill!
Why are you using someone else's words to quote me?
I never claimed to speak for knjess. She very well may have a different idea of what compassion is than I do but trying to mislead with your post serves no purpose so I'm unsure what you're trying to pull?
"Did McCain address those rumours before she became his runningmate? I think both candidates are pretty focused on their job at hand, and don't have time to scold individually everyone who passed along a rumour."
Personally I think Obama did all he needed to do when he said families were off limits and especially children. I don't think it is his responsibility to find all the rumors about Palin and address each and every site - the statement he made and his request to his supporters to refrain from involving the families/children was enough. Since she is McCain's running mate, and from what I can tell the rumor mill had started concerning Palin's 5th child prior to the nomination the rumor mill should have been addressed by McCain as it affects 'his' running mate. Since there was no way to expect she was going to be the nominee - he took great pains to keep it secret - it's a bit disingenuous to accuse the Obama camp of starting the rumor IMHO. Although I am sure I will get slammed on this opinion - clearly Obama is to blame for everything that negatively affects McCain - sounds sort of like my ex still blaming me for every bad thing that happens to him 8 years after our divorce!

How is it "not bothering" to pay for insurance to be unable to cover a $3000 a month insurance premium. How many people actually could afford that?
and the solution is cover it out of pocket. Damn, I guess my dh would just have had to die. Dialysis costs abour $50K annually, just over $4k a month.
$200,000 house? when my dh was on dialysis he lived in a small apartment, and had no savings because every cent of it had gone to cover insurance deductables. He spend every cent he got trying to stay alive. He was incredibly fortunate in that he got a job with a major company who took him on and did not fire him when he ended up needing more sick leave than he'd accrued to get a transplant (his boss was also a transplant recipient).
Without that job he'd have died. Even when government health care (something you folks apparently think should be dumped) covers transplants, it only covers three years worth of the medication you need post transplant, and without which you will go into organ rejection and, probably, die.
Even a gap of 6 months waiting for "pre-existing" coverage at his present job would have probably meant his death, fortunately my job has no pre-existing conditions for employee or family. It meant our young daughter doesn't have to die because we can't afford her insulin too.
Do you think people with chronic illnesses like cancer, diabetes, mental illness CHOOSE to get sick and burden you?
And at least part of the reason costs are less for animals is because quality control is considerably less, as is the costs of research and deveopment of new medication and new procedures.

Sarah Palin should graciously bow out of this race while her daughters still respect her and while she still has a chance of salvaging her family.

I'm going to have to hope that wasn't a personal attack.

I agree totally with all of the points in your post.
