I truly do not care how many children people choose to have, but it like where you live is a choice, with it comes a need for a larger vehicle that uses more fuel. The environmental reasons I speak of when I say I chose to live close in is that my DH and I realized even before gas prices went through the roof that uses that much gas was just not good for the environment. We also have nice clean air, little traffic, and if I want nature all I have to do is drive 15 minutes in any direction and there it is and I live in the largest city in my state. The people who have to deal with traffic are the people driving in from the sprawl. I do care about people and I care about the environment, they are not mutually exclusive. Another reason we chose to live close in is that I want my children exposed to diversity, where I live out in the sprawl (suburbs) and small towns there is none. I want them to know people come in all shapes, colors, belief systems, sexual preferences, and religions. That is a choice my DH and I made a long time ago, their world will be big and inclusive. This is a free country and you are free to live wherever you choose, and since you are all about personal responsibility you should just accept that by making your choice, to reject people and live "on the outskirts" you choose to have high fuel costs. I do not want to continue to destroy the natural resources you say you love for our children's futures because people like you want cheap gas.
***I think she was just saying life is about choices and if you want to hold people responsible for their chooses you have to hold yourself responsible for yours. She may have meant (I am not her so I don't know) that since you feel those with out insurance shouldn't complain because they "chooses not to have insurance" then you choosing to live out in the country is your choice so you shouldn't complain about gas prices? I don't know, and I am not saying who's right or wrong, but I see her point (if that's what it is).*** Yup, that's it.
***That's the whole problem with Liberals, they want the whole country to take care of them. What's so wrong with supporting yourself? Why are Republicans the bad guys because they want you to support yourself and quit depending on government social programs? Why is that so BAD?????***
This is where your argument falls flat. I am a liberal, I am not asking for a handout, I take care of myself and my family, I do not use government programs, never have. My DH and I both have good jobs, we make a good living and we do not need a hand out. The difference is I do not mind giving someone else a helping hand. I think all people have worth, I think the planet is worth saving for my children and I think that healthcare is right, not a privilege. The difference is I care about people other than the people that live in my house or share my DNA. I do not think you have to have wealth to have worth. I am not naive I know that there are people that abuse the system, but that is not a reason to do nothing in my opinion. My ability to have empathy and and compassion in no way makes me weak, it makes me strong.
They think health care is a basic right that all citizens should have, they think education is something every child should have. They think decent housing should be affordable and available, and they don't tend to think those who don't make 250K or better have failed to "stretch" themselves or are slackers. They believe some folks do just that, but that many end up in situations through no fault of their own, and that part of society is ensuring there are safety nets in place to prevent folks falling through the cracks and onto the streets.
Hmmmmmmmm.................do you really think you won't be affected unless you make over $250,000?
Really?
Well if you purchase anything from a business that makes over $250,000 or you work for a company that makes over $250,000 you're going to be affected.
Businesses pass their costs along to their customers, investors and employees. Higher taxes on those who provide us with goods and services, who invest in our growth, and who provide our jobs will serve only to hurt those you're attempting to redistribute to the most.
You do not believe giving should be a free choice. You believe it is something the government should monitor and mandate.
Republicans typically have a stronger belief in personal responsibility.....that it is an individual's PERSONAL responsibility to help their community and fellow man...that is why they are much greater givers to charitable causes in general.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure
How do they feel about picking up the slack for people who don't want to stretch themselves into better positions?
Yup, that's it.
Palin said herself that she preaches abstinence only and not about birth control!
Plus, I changed my mind: Her daughter is fair game because she, Palin, is in the public eye.

My vote is going to be cast for the people who I think represent me the best. As

In other words it's terrible economic policy.
That is not the difference.
