"It's not really your fault - and this isn't really Palin's fault."

I agree.

"BUT - the one thing you absolutely do NOT do, is take on something that is going to thrust your daughter right smack into the middle of the world-wide spotlight.

I actually heard a man on talk radio who said that there "had to be something wrong with her as a parent" since her daughter got pregnant.

Parents are always blamed - rightly or wrongly. I have no idea whether she taught her kids about birth control or not - nor do I particularly care - that is a parenting decision. So far none of my children has become pregnant - knock wood - but my mother was pregnant when she married my father in the 50's. I don't have a problem with that - but I do think it shows a lack of judgment to take on a national political campaign while caring for an infant and knowing you have a pregnant 17yo daughter. Again I am speaking from my perspective as a mother - it is a decision I personally would not have made and I frankly don't understand, given that she seemed ambivalent about the position just a few months ago, why she feels the need to do this now of all times. Once you become a parent I just think you should put your family first - I might be in the minority on this - but I fail to see how taking this on now is putting her family first. I didn't think Edwards should have been running while his wife was battling cancer either.

Perhaps she just has faith that this is where she is supposed to be!

I said probably, based on her beliefs on the matter.

"Personally, as a mother, I agree with you - I can't imagine ever taking such a high profile position under similar circumstances. But then being a mother was my career goal - I only got a degree and began teaching after my children were in school. I just have to wonder about her priorities - this seems to be a time to circle the wagons not run a political campaign. Doesn't change my vote since I wasn't going to vote for her anyway, but I did just lose a bit of motherly respect for her. She had a high power job already and certainly could have waited a few more years to advance her political ambitions, by all accounts she was already an up and coming star, so why not decline now and put her family first. I really feel for her daughter, pregnant and facing a marriage at 17 - very tough road."

Wow! I forgot who said this originally. Sexist much??

Should JFK have run when his wife was pregnant and he was having a baby?
