I wouldn't say that a man should be home supporting his family at all. Now if Palin's husband is going to be a SAHD then that is great but IMO one of the parents should be home taking care of a baby. IMO babies are greatly benefited when their primary care giver is one of their parents, in our world is just usually happens to be the mom.
"She wasn't his first choice, several other people had already turned him down."
Really.....I know several were being considered as may or may not have been on the short list that said they weren't interested (even before having one on one talks with McCain)....but their speeches were much like Palin's initially (prior to the "choice" even being made and in official invitation extended).
I was skeptical of Governor Palin from the very beginning. Why? Because she seemed so indifferent to the care of her newborn son. I have met many "all about me" Moms. Sarah Palin is one of them. She is an egotist and an opportunist. When her daughter needed her most, (this girl was supposed to have been suffering from Mononucleosis when she became pregnant), Governor Palin (and her husband) were traveling to conferences and speaking engagements all over the country. She seemed to have no regard for the safety of the fetus she was carrying. It was "All about Sarah".
Her slogan is not "Country First" or even "Family First". It's "Sarah First" all the way to the White House!

Which other candidates put their pregnant teenagers through a media circus?

Sorry, a normal 17 year old who gets pregnant does not have to deal with a media circus.

I've not denied her the choice at all.
