Over the last few weeks we have been seeing more and more growth here in jobs with manufacturing and technology.

We've been told in Nevada for years that we need to keep the no business taxes in order to attract businesses...well, that hasn't worked out so well. I think this state is the hardest hit with unemployment as well as foreclosures. We just don't have the economic diversity. Maybe incentives would be the thing to attract new businesses.

I'm confused about the "no unions" thing, though. Aren't there unions in North Carolina, just as there are in every state? Or are you talking about the fact that North Carolina is a "right to work" state?

NC has a less than 3% union participation.

That's a good thing...I could just imagine my state doing incentives with no such stipulations. We have a bunch of boneheads here.

The union participation in my state mostly comes from the gaming industry and the public sector.

That's good to know. We've got a nice chunk of money invested in a privately held North Carolina bank and with all the tightening of regulations (skewed in favor of the larger banks) they are struggling for survival. So I'm really rooting for North Carolina!
