This seems to be a tough question lately!

"Resist, we much. We must, and we much. About that, be committed."

Part of the problem seems to be that Israel allowed various countries to put their embassies in the wrong place...and now see what happened...:smileywink:

Hey,

You did it with the "opinion" question!

But, sometimes it is interesting to pose a simple question and see what happens.

This was asked of the State department, and guess what?  They refused to answer it. Wouldn't even say the city's name.

When asked a direct question about it, they said their policy hasn't changed! And that the reporter knew what their answer was. And even when it was stated that the reporter didn't know and wanted an answer, they still would not answer.

I love how the press secretary tells the reporter , several times, that she does know the answer to the question, even though she insists that she doesn't. Wouldn't that be calling her opinion "wrong"..LOL

It seems that the administration is more interested in leaking information ( even misinformation) than answering direct questions about Israel.

I like what Michael Totten had to say, "It’s a fact—not an opinion—that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. Anyone who insists otherwise is in denial. You may wish Tel Aviv was its capital. You may even wish a united Al Quds was the capital of the Arab state of Palestine. But those things can only be true in an alternate universe or in the future. In this universe, in 2012, Israel exists and Jerusalem is its capital."

One of our best allies, and this administration refuses to acknowledge their capital. Incredible. Most presidents like to show support for Israel with a high profile visit. Not this guy. Egypt, yes. He runs right over their and apologizes, in front of the entire world. Muslim Brotherhood, no problem. Come for a visit!

Now, if I only had a link and a really long article to post in its entirety, then my opinion would be iron-clad!

According to the State of Israel, it is Jerusalem. However, this is not recognized by many countries due to recent history. In 1949, West Jerusalem was capture and annexed by Israel while East Jerusalem was part of Jordan. In the Six Day War in 1967, Israel captured and took over East Jerusalem.

Many countries (and International Law) consider East Jerusalem as part of Palestine and hence under military occupation.

The State of Israel has all of its government buildings and offices, including its parliament in Jerusalem. However, since international law does not recognize the "annexation of East Jerusalem by Israel, most countries' consulates are in Tel Aviv, the "capital" prior to 1967". It is not a trick question but one "colored" by middle east politics.

To clarify, which presidents have embarrassed the US by claiming that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, when US foreign policy does not recognize Jerusalem as such?

"According to the state of Israel, it is Jerusalem. However, this is not recognized by many countries due to recent history."

I don't think that other entities can impose a capital city on another country.

"To clarify, which presidents have embarrassed the US by claiming that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, when US foreign policy does not recognize Jerusalem as such?"

Obama, in 2008, when referring to any negotiated  agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority said that it " must preserve Israel’s identity as a Jewish state with secure, recognized, defensible borders. And Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided.”...........Of course this was said at an AIPAC policy conference. Perhaps his opinion is still evolving?

How about Bill Clinton: " During the 1992 Presidential campaign, Bill Clinton said: "I recognize Jerusalem as an undivided city, the eternal capital of Israel, and I believe in the principle of moving our embassy to Jerusalem."

You need to do extra work, pile on the useless links, and look up the big words because it is crucial that you distract people, including your own supporters, from the foundation of your beliefs which are rotten.

Look what is being focused on. the economy? Iran? Jobs? Nope. Free condoms, Romney's bank accounts and their locations, when did he leave Bain Capital, etc...?
