this is from the AP and appears in several news sources besides Fox. it gives an interesting "heads up" on what kind of smears to expect in the next few weeks.

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2008Oct24/0,4670,ChristianRightAttacks,00.html

Among the claims:

_ A 6-3 liberal majority Supreme Court that results in rulings like one making gay marriage the law of the land and another forcing the Boy Scouts to "hire homosexual scoutmasters and allow them to sleep in tents with young boys." (In the imagined scenario, The Boy Scouts choose to disband rather than obey).

_ A series of domestic and international disasters based on Obama's "reluctance to send troops overseas." That includes terrorist attacks on U.S. soil that kill hundreds, Russia occupying the Baltic states and Eastern European countries including Poland and the Czech Republic, and al-Qaida overwhelming Iraq.

_ Nationalized health care with long lines for surgery and no access to hospitals for people over 80.

The goal was to "articulate the big picture," said Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of public policy for Focus on the Family Action. "If it is a doomsday picture, then it's a realistic picture," she said.

I can definitely see all of these scenarios and worse happening with an Obama presidency.

I've been wanting to see one of those '8-12%' who actually thinks things are ok and this country's on course.

You tell her if the shoe fits to wear it and then go on to say you didn't mean to offend her?? That makes no sense to me.

Please don't think I was referencing a particular board, it really was a general statement.

Well yes we should definitely close the barn door after the horse has left. That would be more of the conservative family values I suppose. I have often wondered why they are so concerned with the not-yet-born while so easily disregardful of the actually born.

That is one of those points to ponder, isn't it?

Irreverence is the champion of liberty and its only sure defense.

"Personally....I take a tremendous amount of offense to the blanket statement that all single parents are lacking in character and integrity."

Meh, I don't, and I am one.

I was a single mother for a period of time as well...between my first husband ( who beat me) and my second. I shouldn't be annoyed...I know I shouldn't. But blanket statements always do get to me. I try not to make them ( I don't always suceed in that)..lol. Many wonderful people are single parents and raise many wonderful children. As I have become a mother myself I really realize how much my mother gave up and gave to us. It just really chaps my rear to see her and other single parents portrayed as something ugly. ITA about your assesment on critical thinking. Spot on.

No worries, I understood what you were saying. :-) I was just feeling a nice vibe from having had some pleasant, respectful conversations today, and there is so much that goes back and forth about the negatives in each party that I wanted to express something positive.
