Question for GWB supporters

The many thing I hear about from GWB supporters is that while they may disagree with him on lots of issues, they feel safer with him as president.

So, I wonder. If that's one of the main reasons to vote for Bush, how do you reconcile his delayed action setting up and so far non-action following the recommendations of the 9/11 commission?

I mean if he's smart (and I think he's a very smart compaigner) he'll put the 9/11 recommendations into effect on Nov 1, but still it makes me wonder how procrastinating on the recommendations of a committee designed to discover the weaknesses in or homeland defense is an indication of safety.

So, how do you reconcile that?

Surely there's some Bush supporters out there willing to answer my question. It was a serious question not retorical at all.

Can you be more specific?

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought my question was very specific and clear.

OK, in the May 2002 GWB himself publically stated his opposition to forming an independant commision to investigate 9-11 saying the FBI and CIA could handle the investigation themselves (that's a paraphrase). When a bipartisan group announced the creation of the independant 9-11 investigatory commission the president immediately opposed it saying he should be able to appoint the chairman. After protests from victims families, the commission was finally given the go-ahead on 11/27/2002.

Both the House and Senate have passed 9-11 Commission related bills with the Senate bill being endorsed by the committee. They are stuck in committe with Republican members of the joint committee. This stalemate could likely be broken up by the president if he would take a few hours off his re-election campaign to deal with it.

Most of this information was taken almost direction from the commission's own website. http://www.911independentcommission.org/

You've consistently called other people on posting 'opinions' versus facts, yet you insist on posting analysis pieces from the Heritage Foundation (go to their home page where their mission statement is to further conservative policies and ideals) as if they are facts. They are analysis pieces, thus opinions, and opinions generated by people who are paid to further the explicitly stated goals of their employer.

I understand that in this specific instance, you cited the last paragrpah, and I assume you mean to say that your opinion matches the one of the author as stated in that last paragraph. However, this is at least the 4th time I've seen you post Heritage Foundation material as if it proves something. I appreciate the links, I take time to follow them, and I read the info you cite. But it is no more unbiased an opinion then if I posted a link to Air America as if it proved something.

I didn't answer (as as GWB supporter) b/c the question didn't seem geared towards me b/c you asked about people who disagreed with most issues but felt he was safer ... that doesn't describe me.

I also didn't quite *get* exactly what you were asking either.

1. Fact: GWB opposed the creation of the independant 9-11 commission.

2. Fact: The legislation putting into the commissions recommendations into effect is stuck in committe. Held up by Republican committe members.

I'm not going to lay out each recommendation because you can read those for yourself. This issue has been ignored by any of the media liberal or not. The only people trying to be heard about it are the families of the victims.

If GWB has not been in action to forward the implementationof the recommendations of the 9-11 committee, then how can our homeland be being made more secure?

Of course they're opinions.
