Is Race An Issue?

I have been lurking recently and I haven't seen this come up. I've seen the sexism come up regarding Palin but not the race issue for Obama. I think his race has alot to do with why pp don't want to vote for him. I don't understand how some pp can be a die hard Democrat and support Hillary to the fullest but as soon as Obama won the democratic nomination everybody jumped on McCains band wagon. Sure everybody will say Obama did this and Obama did that. So has McCain. Every presidential candidate promises CHANGE.Bush said all

I understand what you mean when you say "I feel like America doesn't want and isn't ready for a black president."

I've certainly wondered this myself.

they were basically advocating the exact same things...which begs the question on what some people's REAL reason is for not voting for Obama.

Umm he is super annoying when he speaks. He speaks as though he is preaching, giving a sermon and seems egocentric.

i dunno if America doesn't want and isn't ready for a black president. what i do know is -

- half of America would rather have a dumb president with a great last name than a smart president
- Republicans would rather have a white woman representing right wing issues than a black man
- some Clinton supporters were voting by gender and not by race
- some Clinton supporters were probably racists
- but by and large, the Democratic party is "more ready" for a black candidate than the Republicans

i think racism is hard to define. i think i'm not a racist but maybe i am; maybe not belonging to the KKK is not only the definition. i think it is easier for some people to attribute "shady" motives to Obama because he is black - thus must be an anarchist. it's even easier because his name is "weird." he's not Colin Powell.

the OTHER question is how many African-Americans would have crossed lines if Clinton had been the candidate?

"Umm he is super annoying when he speaks. He speaks as though he is preaching, giving a sermon and seems egocentric."

so if a candidate delivers a nice folksy speech about taking away your rights, you would vote for her instead of the preacher who is an advocate for your rights?

just checking,
Bea
