Is Race An Issue?
| Sat, 09-06-2008 - 10:27am |
I have been lurking recently and I haven't seen this come up. I've seen the sexism come up regarding Palin but not the race issue for Obama. I think his race has alot to do with why pp don't want to vote for him. I don't understand how some pp can be a die hard Democrat and support Hillary to the fullest but as soon as Obama won the democratic nomination everybody jumped on McCains band wagon. Sure everybody will say Obama did this and Obama did that. So has McCain. Every presidential candidate promises CHANGE.Bush said all

I do not think Obama is an advocate for my rights? I trust McCain.
I DO NOT TRUST him like I already said.

I think that for some people, race is an issue. I believe that for others, it is a matter of religion or political philosophy. For some of the followers of Senator Clinton I personally know, it's simply a matter of not voting for a Democrat who has a chance at a second term. They would prefer to be able to vote for Sen. Clinton in 2012.
Ironically, it was Senator Obama's speech on race and religion that changed my views on his candidacy. I had been a supporter of Gov. Richardson (also a person of color as a Latino) from the early days. I felt that Senator Obama was a great candidate further down the road. Like many, I had concerns about his limited experience in office. Listening to the speech in Philadelphia convinced me that Sen. Obama had something extraordinary that no amount of elected experience could provide. Instead of spin, he gave us the opportunity to have a national discussion on the issues that divide us as a nation. This white, liberal, feminist homeschooling mom to an agnostic and an atheist has been an Obama supporter since that day.
the OTHER question is how many African-Americans would have crossed lines if Clinton had been the candidate?
We would have voted for Hillary if Obama didn't make it. We love the Clintons. Since we couldn't get Bill back of course we'd want the next best thing,Hillary!

Can't stand those "black men" who talk like they have a brain in there heads now can you?? You sure have made a HUGE deal about REV. Wright, again a black man not remaining in his place?? My own church didn't let blacks have the priesthood till 1979, and guess what? It's a highly respected church. If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, guess what it's s duck!
That is not why people think there is racism. It's because people make fun of him because he is well spoken, use his Middle name to prove him "crazy or a Muslim extremist, and note

That makes alot of sense to. But why would some pp want us to keep going through what we have been dealing with for the past few years. Well never mind they would rather deal with McCain for 4 yrs instead of might having

Are there people who make race an issue?
It really makes me angry that people say Obama is an elitist because he speaks well. When asked how he's an elitist there is now logical explanation given.Would the same be said if a white man spoke that way?
