Is Race An Issue?

I have been lurking recently and I haven't seen this come up. I've seen the sexism come up regarding Palin but not the race issue for Obama. I think his race has alot to do with why pp don't want to vote for him. I don't understand how some pp can be a die hard Democrat and support Hillary to the fullest but as soon as Obama won the democratic nomination everybody jumped on McCains band wagon. Sure everybody will say Obama did this and Obama did that. So has McCain. Every presidential candidate promises CHANGE.Bush said all

By the same token queenbea, aren't some of Obama's supporters being racist by voting for him rather than Hilary?

As for "Republicans would rather have a white woman representing right wing issues than a black man", isn't it possible that republicans want someone who does support conservative issues, rather than a liberal who happens to be black?

Your post is an example of the subtle racism being exerted by Obama's supporters - the implication that if you aren't supporting Obama, deep down inside you're either racist, or you consort with racists...

Why are you yelling at me?? Most people who think they a far from racists tend to be racists. I have issues with race, and there are parts of me that are racists, but I acknowledge them and am working on them. Everyone, I don't care who they are, has preconceived notions of race.

Yes they are BUT at least they are big enough to admit it.

yes some Obama supporters are being racists. and some of Hillary supports are being sexists. i never said anything to the contrary.

"isn't it possible that republicans want someone who does support conservative issues, rather than a liberal who happens to be black?"

you missed my point. of course Republicans want someone to support conservative issues - but why choose a woman when there were equally qualified black men in the party? yes, politics is marketing using people as products and so they chose Palin vs. Blackwell to pick-up the Hillary left-overs. but in making that choice, McCain's advisors played the gender card over the race card.

and i was not implying that a Republican vote is a racist vote. I "assume" the life-long registered GOP are voting on issues. it's the swing voters are the ones up for grabs.

plus i'm pretty sure i used the word "some" - before you accuse me of subtle racism.

It's not my beliefs it is a fact! Several studies have been done that show most people have preconceived notions, judgements, and characterization of other races. It is a form of racism, sorry it sucks, but it's true.

If it is true, it is a very sad fact and hopefully this changes like now. It does not apply to me!Racism/sexism is disgusing! If you think about it some people are even age disciminating re:McCain.

you missed the point again.

you indicated you would vote based on the delivery of a speech - not its contents.

basically, you indicated you dislike the messenger (Obama) so you dislike his message. I'm asking if you would like any message as long as you like the messenger. if a mesmerizing speaker tells you something that is contrary to your beliefs, you would go for it - while someone speaks to your beliefs but in a fashion you find annoying, you would not support them. is that right?

it's really not a question about race but style.

Just because you find black men more attractive doesn't mean you would want one running your country. I don't find that one as a good argument.
