This has got to be one of the most horrid teachers I've ever seen. This clip is from a documentary that was aired in Sweden last night. I feel so sorry for that poor little girl. I hope her mom sees this and that this teacher is fired.

I hardly think she browbeat that child. She certainly was partisan and I would have preferred it had she been more even, but not something to fire a teacher over.

My two youngest children are homeschooled, but I am a firm believer in public schools. I was shocked not only by the teacher's attitude in this video, but also by the students' apparent lack of knowledge and verbal skills. What have they been learning in their school all these years?

So it's better not to tell that student the truth?

I think this "lack of knowledge and verbal skills" comes directly from the home.

I noticed that too. Thank you for pointing it out.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

I think it is fine to discuss politics in school, but she crossed the line. I would love to see students debating each other, or a teacher explaining how the electoral college works. And, I think it would be incredible for students to learn more about their local governments as well.

But, to have a teacher say "Oh Lord, John McCain" and telling a 5th grader that the person she supports could cause her father to stay in the military for 100 years???? That poor little girl is hopefully lucky enough to be better informed than that. The teacher blatantly lied to that girl to make her feel bad about herself. I doubt her father will be gone for more than 15 months at a time, and regardless of how long the war lasts, I doubt her father will be in the military more than 20 years.

Not to mention that not everybody votes for the person that will help him/her the most, but often votes for who they think will help the country the most.

Wow. She lied and misrepresented the facts to that little girl for the purpose of making her feel bad about her or her families decision.

Like I said, I've seen much worse on Youtube from homeschoolers.
