The statistics are skewed then because most of the income that is earned by the top 1% is invested in financial securities, business equity, trust, stocks, bonds and real estate.
Well, for starters, the stats were just recently posted here on the board, the percentages per year that McCain voted with Bush - and they were remarkably high!
BUT...those investments aren't realized...they can't use those stocks to buy cars, etc...and when they do liquidate the stocks, they pay taxes then....
and why shouldn't people be allowed to grow thier wealth?
everyone has the same opportunities....if " the classes below them" want to have the same advantages, they can...they just have to work to earn such privileges.....
we are all entitled to the persuit of happiness...
we must persue it, it isn't handed out
if everyone had the same quality of life, then to be fair, everyone should put in the same amount of work.
communism doesn't work, there will always be people who want a free ride, and there will always be people who put in an extra effort for an extra benefit.
if you want to make a true comparison, did you evaluate the after tax, after inflation income of people in the rest of the top 50th percentile? and how it changed from 1979 to 2003?
The chart I provided was from The Census Bureau before income tax.
<<between 1979 and 2003, the top 1 percent of households enjoyed a 129 percent gain in after-tax income after inflation. That compares with 15 percent for the middle one-fifth of all households and 4 percent for the bottom fifth." http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0306/p16s01-coop.html>>
OH MY GOODNESS!
no wonder the outrage! i had NO IDEA that the wealthy in 2003 earned 129% of what they earned in 1979 .

So are you saying that as a preschool teacher I just don't work hard enough to "earn such privileges"? Or what about my husband who put his life on the line for you and everyone else in this country while serving in Iraq? I guess he just wasn't working hard enough? I'm not trying to start a fight, but please THINK about what you're saying. My husband made less as a soldier then he made at his FT job state-side.

Also, comparing candidates to Hitler or the Nazis trivializes the whole Holocaust.
