Actually, his general platform is that Washington needs change and that he will continue to pursue change as he has done so far as a Senator (his bipartisan legislation for sweeping lobby activity reform is a great example). However, on the major issues/positions, he is aligned with his party - as is McCain.
did you pull out your 2007 IRS tax return, and compare the "taxes due" then divide that number by AGI (line 38 on your 1040)
-------and....also help me understand....how do the 2 candidates differ on thier income tax proposals to the "middle class"? because from what i saw, they seem the same for that tax bracket.
I had to go pick my son up from school so I missed reading this post earlier. My taxes are not available at this time but I know for a fact that we pay out more in taxes then we have ever gotten back in a refund. My family is made up of "common working men" and they all pay taxes so I'm not quite sure where you're getting your information from. Can you show me a source that shows that the "commom working man" does not pay income taxes? And here is a link for you if you are truly interested in learning more about how the candidates differ. The section on economy and taxes should help answer some of your questions.

"there are probably a lot of people who aligned tehmselves with bush 10 years ago, and do not now."
well, McCain's statement on this matter was not made 10 years ago, it was within the last couple of years, and his voting record (90% aligned with Bush policy/agenda) speaks for itself so I just don't understand what more could be provided to make the point effectively.
