with a more just and equitable distribution of property and labor.
LOL, the very statement you bolded proves the other point.
>>You DID see that there was a caveat about NOT helping out those who bought a home beyond their means, right? What about those who could afford the home and then one or both owners lost a job?<<
Since when has this possibility NEVER existed before? It's the REASON why you're supposed to have at a minimum 3 to 6 months worth of living expenses saved before doing something like buying a house or having a kid. You're supposed to have saved for these potential situations. You find me someone who did this and who has wiped out their six months of savings, lost both incomes and still has no job? Then I might find some pity.
>>What about those who live in an area where home prices have depreciated drastically and now they owe more on the home than it is actually worth? Are these the stupid, irresponsible people you are talking about?<<
Absolutely they are! If you didn't over-buy in the first place and lived beneath your means which is always the smart thing to do it doesn't matter if you house has gone up or down in value. The payment stays the same. Oh--you were foolish enough to go with an adjustable rate mortgage and your payment has now increased and you can't refinance? DUH--another risk you chose to take. I've had dozens of mortgages over the years and NOT ONE was an adjustable rate. If you couldn't qualify for a fixed rate mortgage then YOU COULD NOT afford the house in the first place.
>>Just try, for one second, to imagine if you or your husband lost your job. Would you be able to afford the payments on your home?<<
Without a doubt. I plan for the unlikely.

The payments didn't increase, so if you could afford it in the past, you should be able to now.
It's not luck to plan ahead and I shouldn't be criticized for it.
But it IS luck to be able to plan ahead.

Since WHEN have we been in the middle of a global economic crisis like this one, in our living memory?
If we both lost our jobs, yes we could live in our home and pay our bills.
