It's true that Mr. Obama is taking us down the road to socialism.

Not exactly. Mortgage loans are amortized. Depending on circumstances may afford tax savings and there are other things that can be done with the funds that very well may offer a higher rate of return. You've not considered taxes, inflation or the time value of money (TMV).

Ah but it's having monies in places that may offer a higher rate of return that has wiped out many people's "savings" now, is it not?

A quick survey of sociological literature on inner-cities and other down-trodden populations would tell you that.

That usually happens in college...you know, that place that turns people into "liberals"?

(I have a funny feeling those preaching to the general public that they are irresponsible because they could not weather the market forces are the very same ones for deregulations and big risk takers for those "big" bold capitalist that are the very same ones whose risks did not pay off and we are bailing out.

In Hawaii, rent is just as much a mortgage payment. Before we move into our house we were paying $2,400.00 a month for rent. Our house payment is $2,400.00. No, we don't live in a huge house. Our house is 3 bedroom and only 1,080 sq feet. We really don't have a back yard to speak of.
