Do you have any feelings about Mitt Romney’s annual income for 2010, and the less-than-15% tax rate he paid?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/mitt-romney-releases-tax-records-gop-presidential-candidate-paid-3m-14-2010-article-1.1010823

“That means the former Massachusetts governor made about $59,452 every day in that year, dwarfing the median household income of $49,445, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.”

So....are you saying that we ought to close down our land grant colleges, which have made higher education affordable for millions of people who would not have otherwise been able to tread education's path to greater affluence?

"As someone who worked my tail off in government service, I'm resisting going further into that comment."

Yup.

That particular wealthy person gets most of his income without doing a lick of work...he's skimming money off the top of "work" (if it can be called so) that others do

"I want to further add that I am really saddened by what seems to come across as angry, bitter feelings in this thread. I thought this thread would be open to a mature discussion, but some of you sound so hateful and so I won't be coming back here."

If I see a post that suggests that my "government job" (I work for a land grant college) needs to be scrutinized because the money is "taken" from taxpayers, it does make me wonder exactly what level of third worldness some are willing to drop to...none of us could have the lifestyles we enjoy without the infrastructure built by our taxes.

I've never demonized the rich. There is a difference between earned wealth and that which is the result of thievery, though...whether the bank is robbed by an armed man or the bank president taking advantage of sketchy financial practices, it's still thievery. Hostile takeovers that result in looting are thievery.

"brillaiant enough to have graduated harvard and at the top of his class with a few notable accomplishments can anyone else here say the same?

I haven't figured that one out yet either. Is she supporting Romney, or being sarcastic?

Frankly, I think that Romney started life with a HUGE advantage by being born into a family with wealth and power. His own efforts certainly are commendable but one wonders. How different would the narrative have been had he been born to a single mother on welfare?

Elizabeth Warren said it well but was castigated because some conservatives took her first two sentences out of context:

"There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there, good for you. But I want to be clear: You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory and hire someone to protect against this because of the work the rest of us did. Now, look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea, God bless, keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along."

I am seeing a lot of that same "out of context" behavior in this thread.

Elizabeth Warren is my personal favourite politician, and I hope hope hope if she wins the senate seat, she runs for president in 2016.
