Scared? Afraid?

I have read several posts where people say they are scared if either McCain or Obama wins.

ASSUMING that most posters have a belief/faith to their God of choice, why are you scared?

Yes, the U.S is currently a mess and may get worse under EITHER administration, but next January, there will still be your faith and your God, who will be the ONE who gets you through.

For Christians who say that you are afraid, doesn't the word say that we are to fear nothing but God himself?

I understand, concern for the welfare of you and yours, but scared?

EVERYDAY we are under the possible terroist attack here at home, but are you scared on a daily basis about it - yes concerned but scared?

EVERYDAY there is a possibility that you or your SO may lose a job, but is that one your mind as heavily as Scary Obama and Scary McCain?

EVERYDAY there is a possibility

"How odd then that you support McCain, rather than the candidate who wants troops in Afghanistan rather than Iraq -- just as you do."

That's fine if you're not a Christian, but Jesus taught us to turn the other cheek and love our enemies. I'm not saying it's easy, but it is what the New Testament says we should do. Does that mean that our government should "love" and "forgive" the terrorists - no - but that is also why I STRONGLY believe in separation of church and state.

I am not trying to be inflammatory or judgmental - people handle things in their own way and I would definitely have trouble forgiving someone who killed a family member of mine. However, I would try my best to do so because that is what Jesus taught us to do.

I wouldn't say that I am scared - but I am worried and rightfully so I believe. When Bush was elected in 2000 I thought, "Well this sucks, but he couldn't do that much damage in four years". Then when he was re-elected in 2004 I thought, "Well this sucks again, but it couldn't get that much worse." I was wrong on both counts. I believe that George W. Bush has essentially run this country into the ground. You can blame it on the democrats - and I do believe EVERYONE in Washington shares some degree of blame - but I think that the majority of the blame lies on the shoulders of our current secretive and, IMO, downright shady administration who have taken lying and manipulating the public to a whole new level. The financial meltdown, again IMO, is the result of trickle down economics being a stinking pile of doo-doo. What do multimillionaires do when given tax cuts? Create jobs? No - they buy vacation homes and yachts. There is not some benevolence among the wealthy that makes them invest in jobs and higher pay for workers. Do some wealthy people have this benevolence - sure! Do they all - NO, probably not even most of them.

Anyway - I actually was relieved when the GOP nominated McCain. I thought, "Here is a guy who should have been the party's nomination 8 years ago. He is much more centrist and I feel like, if elected, he could bring our country together again." However, since selecting Sarah Palin and playing to the crazy right wingnut constituency of the party, not to mention inciting hatred and anger among the base towards anyone or anything "liberal" - I have simply lost all respect for the man.

So am I scared? No - that doesn't do any good and as previous posters have pointed out, leads to bad things. However, I am concerned that my country is about to continue heading in what I believe to be the wrong direction.

I realize that you are trying to offer words of comfort and I hope it works for some. Unfortunately, I've trod this earth long enough to know that God does not intervene. God will not protect you. God will not help you. God offer our rewards in the next life not this.

Here is a little essay by Annie Dillard.
