Secede from the U.S.?

I've heard the past couple of days some Kerry supporters who are thinking it would be a great idea for the 'blue states' to secede from the country. This morning I did a quick search and found information from both sides about seceding, obviously the Bush supporting side was pre-election information.

Anyway, this got me thinking, would it be possible and would it be a good/bad thing?

Geographically New England would easily be able to leave (PA, MD, everything north of there), the west coast (CA, OR, WA) would be a good solid chunk, then you have a cluster with MN, WI, IL, and MI nearby but I donk know if MI shares a border with IL or not so that might be tricky, then you have HI.

There would be some geographic problems because there would be definite trouble with giving up the entire west coast and access to the Great Lakes (save OH). Other than that, geographically, I see no problems.

Then there is the issue of breaking up our country, that on the surface is not a good thing, but some people are apparently thinking it is a great idea so I thought it would be interesting to explore the pros/cons of it.

I could go on for a very long time with this, but I know how I get reading a very lengthy post so I'm trying to keep it a little smaller that the Encyclopedia Britanica.

*****Please note: I'm NOT advocating this (seceding) as a viable option. I thought it might be interesting to explore as a 'what if'. Please don't 'yell' at me :).

Actually, unless you people have another Civil War, your Constitution does not allow for secession. Your Civil War ended that..Once part of the States, there is no legal means out. So, those few talking about States leaving your union, should learn more about your Constitution.

Plus, there is no mechanism for "outsiders" (outside the Commonwealth) to formally join Canada. Canada is not into expansion and, as such, has no provisions to handle such a situation. The last time Canada accepted new territory into Confederation was in 1949.

(We are a Conferation of 10 Provinces & 3 Territories). That was the former British Colony of NewFoundland when the Brits(pressure from) & the Colony, after a very narrow vote, asked Canada to finally formally join Confederation.

I find it rather funny that this new absurb country would be called the "United States of Canada" since Canada does not have states but 10 Provinces & 3 Territories. Are these people surposing that theses states join Canada or take over my country?

No, Canada has enough problems. It does not need to add those of the disillusioned States.
